So, the MSI card runs cooler and OCs higher...?

Not necessarily. In terms of real-world performance they're going to be pretty much neck-and-neck. I would go for the 3GB to future proof. One thing to note is that the AMP does take up three expansion slots meaning that it would be difficult to SLI in the future.

If its that hard to sli then I guess I'll just get the zotac and hold on to it until I can get a Kepler card
post #24 of 31
I had an MSI TF3 GTX570, and was getting lower OCs than those with reference cards, the custom cards are not guaranteed a higher OC, but you have more chance than with a reference design(not as much as they want you to think though) The only advantage to them IMO is the cooler, and the Zotac clearly has the better cooler here, unless you need a 2 slot card.

Are 3 slot cards IMPOSSIBLE to sli? Or is it just difficult

Not impossible, just that your case might not be big enough to fit 6 slots. The motherboard could also be a problem. I don't think it will be necessary to SLI a gtx 580 3GB.

And don't buy the kepler. Wait until the next gen. Those cards might support the possible Direct X 12 + other features.

I'm not sure if anyone has brought this up or not (surprised if they haven't) that if you want to SLI your card, don't waste the money on the 3GB. The reason is you are limited in SLI to whichever card has the lower amount of VRAM. Seeing in your sig you have a standard GTX 580 1.5GB, buying a 3GB to SLI with it would be an absolute waste of money as that card will only ever be loaded down to 1.5GB.

Heh, people never read the original post do they. @Arinoth - he doesn't have that card yet.

I'd go for the MSI card. Better cooler, generally better OCer if you don't water it. They're also a more solid company that offers better customer support. The 3 year warranty should be more than enough until your next upgrade.

Your motherboard will let you SLI the Zotac, there is better spacing on most of the P67 boards that previous generations. Unfortunately for me my card is a 5 slot (screws sticking out the back) so I'm stuck on a single card on almost any motherboard.

He technically "will" be able to SLI the cards, but they'll overheat pretty quickly. They will have literally 2-3mm in between them, and that isn't sufficient for good enough air flow.
