Newer Intel CPUs draw less power. However my older i7 920 draws a lot of power when overclocked.

The new AMD CPUs aren't that bad relative to the newer Sandy Bridge Intel processors (2500/2600k). From this review, new AMD FX-8150 averages 191w while running PCMark, where the 2600k averages 155w over the same run (2500k avg 153w, i5-920 avg 193w).

I'm running one of the new Sandy Bridge chips, and the reality is that the 30w isn't a big difference, but it is more heat to have to deal with, which often equates to more noise and more power consumption ($$). That being said, you can't really go wrong with any of them. I've been pulling hard for Bulldozer to ship and smack me in the face with awesomeness and bang-for-buck, like 6950s did.... But honestly I've been disappointing with their showing, so I don't feel any regret for going with my 2600k.

All things considered, if I were building today, I'd still probably go with a 2500k or 2600k.

Everyone is saying that FX processors use alot of power so how about
an intel 2600k cpu with double 6970 crossfire with 750 watt psu?

Numbers varies from site to site but about this:
FX 8150 @ Stock = 200W
FX 8150 @ 4.7Ghz = 350W
i7 2600k @ Stock = 150W
i7 2600k @ 4.6= 240W
