Fire or Viewsonic G Tablet

Thread Starter
So, I keep eyeing the amazon kindle fire. I must say it is at a very nice price point and would allow me to finally join the bandwagon of tablet users, after thinking tablets were going to die, boy do I feel foolish. I am a currently going to college for an IT degree and I usually have 2-3 books at any given time. This is the main reason I want a tablet, not to mention I can store cross references as well.

I would be lying to say I wasn't going to do internet browsing, watch movies, and play games on it as well. I am torn between these two selections though. I was hoping someone might push me in one direction or the other.

I know that the viewsonic packs a tegra 2 and I'm unsure how the fire will perform compared to it. I also know that the viewsonics display is debate-ably bad. The fire has a very nice IPS panel which will be gorgeous however is only 7". This really isn't a deal breaker but if I'm spending around the same amount of money, 7" compared to 10.1".

Does anyone know if the Fire is currently priced at 200 as a pre-order and the price will go up after launch?

If anyone has good info I would appreciate it. I must also add that I refuse to spend the same amount of money on a tablet when I could have a low-end, laptop or netbook. As much as I would love to have a transformer, I am not going to pay 400 for a tablet.

I am heading down to get my G Tablet after work today, looks to be quite a little device. I will probably wind up getting the Kindle Fire as well for the wife.

I had a G tablet. With all the ROMS for it I can almost forgive the device (not viewsonic) for its sub-par screen, I bought it for $300 and felt that I was getting an amazing deal back then. Did you consider getting an iPad? Even though you said that your not going to pay $400 for a tablet, I just want to let you know that Apple is getting rid of their stock of refurbished and new 64Gb iPads. I bought one for $400 and its going to come tomorrow

The screen on the G tablet has REALLY BAD viewing angles, the extra 3 inches wouldn't justify how bad they are. I'f get the fire or wait for tegra 3 to come out so that you can snatch a transformer for around $250 (hopefully)

I also had my eye on the Kindle Fire. It is only 7 inches, but It's still a really great price point, Also, snag that $45 dollar insurance for it, and if you drop it or anything they'll replace it. So for $245, it's a great deal. I'm thinking of pre-ordering once it gets closer to the release date. Also, I love Apple products, but the major killing of the iPad is their lack of Flash player, if they teamed up with Adobe, they would have the ultimate tablet.

Also could look for a cheap nook color. You can side load any apps that say they aren't compatible. Love mine.
