Cooler Master V6

Thread Starter
Hi All,

I am running an Intel i7 950(not over clocked) and a cooler master V6 CPU cooler. My idle temperatures are between 33-39 degrees and at load i see high 40's sometimes low 50s. i was expecting temperatures a lil lower than that. i applied a thin layer of thermal paste across the cpu(could this be an issue). My Case is the HAF 922 and air flow into and out of the case is optimal...

Any thoughts or is this normal?!?!?!

A thin amount of thermal paste is the optimal amount. the purpose of the thermal paste is to match any pits (low spots) on the cpu with the heatsink, making a flatter surface. too much thermal paste material, and the CPU will no longer effectively transfer heat to the heatsink.

33°C is my idle on my Sandy Bridge i5-2500k with a Hyper 212+, with a 4.5GHz overclock.

Any pictures of the inside of the case, so we can make sure things look good?

Your temps are acceptable if the ambient temps are high.

If not, you may need to reset the cooler; though, is the fan connected to the Mobo and when you load up the system; what is the fan RPM moving to.

That's not bad at all... Mid 30s on a semi decent air cooler is pretty good I would think. I would say you're doing ok. I mean barely reaching the 50s is completely safe and still has lots of room for OC'ing.

Dont have pics but i will upload when i get home from work.... Ambient temps where quiet high at the time. The Speed of the cpu fan is constantly running between 2200 rpm and 2340(max) rpm.... Should i drop the speed slightly, it is a bit noisey.

High 40s / low 50s is pretty good for load temps on a i7. Don't see much to worry about here...

You're definitely doing fine if the ambient is in the 30*C range. That cooler isn't top end, but you're definitely not doing too bad.

I'd tune down to 1800 RPM if you want a quieter experience.
