X4 955, FX-4100, 3850 or 1090T?

Thread Starter
I've decided to upgrade my computer from my mature E8200 as even though I have a lot of fond memories and it'll definitely stay in my heart, it's bringing down my rig as a whole and a second 6870 is on the way so I definitely need to upgrade.
I've been umming and ahhing for a good few hours now and cannot make my mind up on what CPU I want however so I thought I'd ask for some opinions to get the brain cells going.
I've been with intel my whole "life" sort of speak so I want to try AMD, and I know I couldn't of picked a worse time to go with AMD with the way things have been going but hell, I like the underdog and change is good.

My main uses are mainly games, I render videos daily but this isn't my main priority as I'm a patient man, my E8200 took a good couple hours even for a short video so I've learnt to appreciate process priority.
I do plan to overclock quite drastically, I have a decent H60 with a speedy push/pull going so overclocking is a definite thing which is why I planned to go the X4 route instead of the i3-2100.

Other than that, that's it, all four are in budget with the 1090T just peaking out of it slightly but I can live with that, I'm aware the 6-core 1090T won't be fully used in the majority of games so the performance gap in between the X4/X6 in that regard will be small, but I feel the extra £40 may be worth it down the line, plus I like being able to say I have a 6-core. The motherboard I go with comes down to the CPU, but I'll try to get a 970+ so piledriver is an option, obviously this isn't an option with the 3850 though, and I'll be going with 8gb 1600mhz XMS3 or ripjaws, depending on stock availability when I order tomorrow.

Thanks again, appreciate all opinions and replies, take care.

P.S:
I feel I wandered on originally but my main concern was if the FX-4100 would be a wiser choice over the 955, I feel bulldozer may have a lot of potential later on and I wouldn't want to miss that.

No reason to get an A-series Fusion CPU if you already have a 6870. In order of preference: 1090T, X4 955, FX-4100, A8-3850. The X6 has more cores, a better IMC, and usually more OC headroom than the Deneb X4s.

Your best bet is going to be a 2500k with a P67 or z68 board honestly.

If you're stuck on AMD, go for the 960T. It's a 4 core Thuban, so it'll have a beastly IMC and NB, and since its missing 2 cores from a regular Thuban, it should do close to 4.5GHz stable.

I have to agree with pioneerisloud.

The i5 2500K offers amazing performance for the price.

The 2500k is an amazing processor but it's definitely out of budget with a 8x/8x board unfortunately, and it may be hipster of me but I have a strange attraction towards bulldozer even knowing it's a disappointment, I may be some kind of CPU hipster in the making, I can just about spring for the 6-core bulldozer if it matters, 1090T might be better though.
And I've heard great things about the 960T but they don't sell them in the UK and I simply can't wait any longer as the 6870 is coming probably today.

What does 8x / 8x have anything to do with it? I've got a 580, and the performance loss going from 16x to 8x was minimal at best, literally about 1-2% loss.

Get a 990FX mobo and a 980BE or 960T Zosma to hold you over until bulldozer is sorted.

If your options are limited to those. I would suggest getting the 1090T over the 6100.

I meant, I'd need a motherboard that supports atleast x8/x8 on both PCIE's for my 6870's and a P67/Z68 board of that nature in the UK is well above budget, especially with the £160 2500k, so the best I can get would be the X4/X6 or 6-core bulldozer.
