X4 955, FX-4100, 3850 or 1090T? - Page 2

Seems like the 1090T is the way to go, I'm pushing it I know but is bulldozer really that horrid? Maybe I'm in denial but it definitely strikes me as odd as why they'd put out a newer, same priced 6-core with worse performance.

Find the ASRock Z68 Extreme3. Newegg link, I know. But I don't know UK sites.

You're going to be paying AT LEAST $150 (USD) for a motherboard that'll take a Thuban anyway (safely).

Well, let's just put it this way. Phenom II X4 is faster than FX4100 in almost all cases. And there is a BIG gap between a Phenom II X4 and a 2500K.

Does that answer your question?

About the motherboards...Z68 boards really aren't more expensive than a decent 990FX board, at least in the states. As Pioneerisloud mentioned, look at the AsRock Z68 Extreme 3. It'll do x8/x8 SL or Crossfire and is very reasonably priced.

Here's an Amazon.co.uk link:

The AsRock Z68 Extreme3 seems to be priced about the same as the comparable Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 in the UK, so you can't really say that the Intel boards cost more...

Trust me, I spent the best part of two hours checking all the major and all the black market'ish websites I could find putting together a Z68/P67 2500k build even with 4gb rather than the 8gb I planned to get and couldn't fit it in budget, the most expensive CPU I can get is the 1090T/FX-6100.

1090T > FX-6100. Just throw away the thought of getting the FX-6100. The FX-6100 isn't even a true hexacore processor.

Did you see the Amazon.co.uk link I posted?

The AsRock Z68 Extreme3 is £113.05 through an Amazon marketplace seller, while a comparable AMD board, the Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3, is £114.99.

The 2500k is about the same price as the 1090T and FX6100.

Unless I'm missing something, it seems like around £100-120 is the going rate for a decent 990FX board in the UK. So the Intel boards aren't really more expensive even the UK, are they?
