I've got the itch too. Debating on trading my i5 for an i3, just for the heck of it. Or my 580 for an SLI setup.
i5 to i3 is downgrade not side.

Going for an i7 920 to a i7 2600K is an upgrade. You achieve higher clocks, better performance and lower power consumption to top it all off.

Sure it's still 4C/8T, but who really wants to spend $500+ to buy a hexacore [unless for encoding or benchmarking]? Waiting for Haswell would be the smart choice for any X58/P67/Z68 owner.

But he went to a 2500k, which is 4 cores / 4 threads.

Sandy Bridge is a side grade from Nehalem. Both CPU's are more than enough for most tasks out there anyway (short of highly threaded applications, but then the 980 / 990X come in).

Says who? So I wouldn't have 4.9GHz anymore. My i5 at bone stock maxes out every game I throw at it. Only reason I have it overclocked at all is for folding....

Hmmm, I might side grade into an SLI setup maybe....more PPD.
