So far i'm enjoying the experience and able to set everything at maximum settings.

However from what i've heard Metro2033 would be a different case and I would have to scale things back a bit. Now i've tried several levels of settings and to be honest I cant tell a frame rate difference between them at 1680 x 1050 @60Hz.
Everything looks gorgeous but i'm I missing some hidden display option here?

Or going from consoles have I just accepted low frame rates?smile.gif
On that resolution and your system, to maintain high frame rates, i would do this:

High
DX 11 (Dof off, tess on)
AAA
16AF
Physix off
1650x1050

If you find that the fps is very high, you could try the Very high setting and compare seen as your resolution is below 1080p.

I've seen quite a lot of people turn off the PhysX.
Normally I love physics in games, why are people doing this?

For simple reasons:

1. They purely do not like the physics eye candy.

2. With PhysX on will hit on the performance slowing down the game or FPS without a dedicated PhysX card.

3. Their systems do not support PhysX Hardware Acceleration.

These seem about right to me as well for a single 580 at 1680 resolution, assuming that occasional dips to <30fps would bug you ... with Brad's settings you'd likely be able to hold up >45fps at all times.

Now, if you don't mind occasionally dropping into the low 20's or even high teens, a 580 can probably handle the game completely maxed out (VeryHigh/DX11/MSAA4X/TessOn/DoFOn/PhysXOn).

The DoF and 4xMSAA are the big fps killers in this game, so if you find you can't quite max it out w/o some scenes (and believe me, there's certain stretches of the game where the gpu load gets WAY higher than what you see in the beginning of the game ... it's like Crysis in this regard) getting too laggy, I would drop back to AAA and DoF off.

I actually don't even really like the DoF effect, and feel it's def. not worth the FPS hit to enable it. Why do I wanna pay in FPS to make stuff in the background look blurry, when, in fact, my eyes will naturally accomplish the same thing anyway?
