Can't spell ignorance without IGN

That's my motto. I don't trust game reviews. Any amateur can do it. Including those monkeys at IGN.

How do you review a game for pete's sake? Each reviewers criteria is different. Scores across sites mean different things. Plus reviewers get treated very decently when playing the game early. As in, any luxury they want while locked in a hotel room for a few days playing the game.

And then there's peer reviews. Most of the time you got two extremes, love and hate, and the decent peer reviews get drowned in the former two. See here for AMD FX CPU's. You guys saw the crapton of posts at NDA lift.

IMO, only way is to buy it yourself and play, based on what YOU think of the game.

You can always "try before you buy" but if it's good, you get stuck into and finish it before you buy it. If it sucks, you uninstall and delete. If there's no demo, you've got no option.

TL;DR: It's a deathtrap. You lose any way.

I personally don't really trust any review sites. It's become more and more difficult to tell which reviewers are reviewing the game honestly, and which are doing it with developer favours in mind, or just straight up being paid to give a good review.

I like Ben Kuchera from Ars Technica, but their game coverage is a bit pants, but I get the impression they are honest about how they do things. Still, it would take more than a good review from Ben to get me to buy a game.

I will use reviews to work out which games to avoid though.

[EDIT] I also think reviewers wield way too much power for what is, essentially, expressing an opinion.

A lot of the big companies that do it might also take bribes for a good review from the developers. If I had to trust reviews I would trust the amateurs on youtube who review for fun.

I find the overall BF3 experience to be awesome...I actually view it as a 10 but, personally that's because I actually understand what a beta is unlike the VAST majority of these forums.

I do believe that EA skewed their results by sending it to reviewers that would play nice...And, to be honest, I don't see a problem with it.

Batman was ONLY sent to reviewers that would give it above an 8...The same is true for WoW and it will be true for Diablo 3.

This industry is built around hype, smoke and mirrors, then more hype...It's kind of like Fox News.

The only way to get a real review anymore is to read as much as you possibly can and then form your own decision otherwise, you're never going to get a "close truth" or even a remote truth at that matter.

Then again, the industry has //ALWAYS// been this way...In the beginning you had no choice whom to send a game to...Now you do...

Just because you're JUST finding out about it...Doesn't mean it hasn't been going on for decades...

It's just marketing...get used to it.

Basically all the reviews have said single player and co-op is meh. Then say multiplayer is very good.
I don't get how every one of those "90" reviews rip apart single player, tell you it's hard to suggest, etc., and then give a score of 90.

Interesting.

Also they said they will update the review after the patch, the game will only get better after the patch. Most sites are probably just trying to get the first reviews, so they get more hits.

I imagine if the update it, it would get a 9.2 ish or something. I imagine mw3 will score higher though.

But remember, your asking an elitist pc gamer occupied forum, of course were going to say COD is overrated.
Yea well a patch isn't going to bring the single player score up from what is has

darn I didn't get to post /inb4activisionpaidign

@ the poll why would anyone trust any OCN member? Do you think they aren't bias as well? I don't trust any review unless I played the game myself. Especially since this forum is heavily in favor of battlefield even when they haven't played anything besides beta.

Don't really care about them. I read reviews sometimes but take them with a grain of salt. Ultimately I'll be the judge of how much I enjoy the games.

I ignore professional game reviewers(Zero Punctuation doesn't count). Always go by user reviews and take them with a grain of salt.

I would. I've done reviews for several sites in the past and I can guarantee you there's so much political backhand dealing you wouldn't believe it unless you had seen it for yourself.

Now this isn't me saying IGN were paid off by Activision, before anyone gets the wrong idea, but this is me saying there's alot more behind it all than simply receiving a game and reviewing it. It can, and does, get a little messy.

I mostly don't care about reviews. I buy them because I think I'll enjoy them, not because the reviewer enjoyed/hated it.

So what you're saying is, when BF3 gets a high score, it sounds fair, but IF MW3 gets a high score, it will be because Activision paid them off. Yeah, that makes sense...

P.S. Was the 9.0 even for PC specifically, or just the game in general?
