Sabertooth 990FX Memory + OC

Hey guys, you've all really helped me out with my monitor, but now I'm confused about something a bit more internal.

I have the 1100T BE running at 3.3 with 16GB of vengeance ram running at 1333.

I am a newbie to this game.

My first question is, shouldn't the RAM be running at 1600? I've read something about the memory controller not being capable?

My second question is, should I be running the components at optimal? over clocking the cpu etc.

In my first BIOS fiddle, I had the cpu running at 3.8 from the OCTuner, but the memory dropped to 1240ish. That is all I can tell you.

Thank you,

Voidy

Edit: It seems no matter what I do now, it just wants to stay at 3.84GHz

I have the exact same ram, cpu and Mobo as you.

You have to go to he advanced settings and go into the AI tweeker. Ounce in there you need to change to setting from AUTO to DOCP. SHould be the first on in the list. Ounce you have changed this to DOCP you can change your Ram to 1600Mhz. It's either the 3 or 5th option. I'm on my laptop at the moment and my desktop is apart awaiting my new GPUs so I can't get into the BIOS at this exact moment.

ALSO when you set it to DOCP, and you change your settings of your ram to 1600 your CPU will auto clock to 3.7Ghz with turbo on auto.

This is bios version 2.00.1201 but it works for what you need to look for.
Change the AI Overclock Tuner to DOCP
the change the Memory Frequency to 1600Mhz. Exit and save, reboot and there ya go your ram will be running at there 1600Mhz speed.

Hey Belander, thanks very much for this. I've set it to 1600MHz but it insists on ocing the processor to 3.7GHz/3.8GHz, normally I wouldn't mind but it causes some games to crash so I'd prefer to leave it alone, do I just leave the OCTuner on cancel?

16 gb of DDR3 1600 will not limit your oc on that cpu.

What games are crashing? Just curious. I know BF3 is not yet optimized for Xfire yet. Has issues and crashes and if thats the game thats crashing try a single card and see if the crashing persists. i say this because I am running stable at 4.0Ghz with the same setup as you except I have a single Sapphire 6850. the newest drivers caused BC2 to crash. installed BF3 and bingo runs like a champ. Rock solid.

You can turn the OC tuner off and manually adjust the CPU ratio. 3.7Ghz is a CPU ratio of 18.5 if i recall, so you can use the - to lower it by .5 at a time until your stable.

I would suggest checking drivers first, and try it with a single vid card. You maybe having Xfire issues with newer games such as BF3, since BF3 and others were only really optimized for SLI in beta and alpha. They should have it worked out soon with a driver update here shortly.
