Extended Desktop/Crossfire Question

Thread Starter
I did a search and found plenty of questions about Extended desktop and switching profiles with a hotkey (I will ask about that as well if it can be used with what I'm thinking about). I could not find an exact person's questions that related to me, so I'm asking now.

Background
ATI cards are foreign to me, my last ATI card was 1998. I've been using Nvidia since 1999. I've also been using SLI since 2007 (I've never had an issue with SLI, I know I'm lucky ).

I prefer nvidia's method for Surround (where each GPU is dedicated to a monitor. To me I feel this is the best way to utilize a GPU instead of dumping all the video output work on one card thus shorting it's lifespan. This is just my I have no proof of this). But the price of a 5770/6770 is so attractive to me, that I find it hard to resist. But, If I can not do what I want with ATI I will quickly pick up 3x GTX 470's off of ebay (though I'll have to hide them from my wife because I know it'll cost me $150 per GPU unless someone on here would like to donate a GTX 470 to my future rig ).

Questions
using the image below these are my questions. Yes I know I wrote crossfure, my daughter was on my lap oozing peanut butter & jelly with Grape juice all over my keyboard, (kids these days have no respect for laptop keyboards) when I was typing and I didn't feel like correcting it.

1)I would like to have Extended Desktop + Crossfire Is that Possible?
I know I won't be able to enable eyefinity, I will use SoftTH to play my games (I've been using that since 2009 when I started my Multimonitor gaming journey).

2) Will Crossfire be able to work with a monitor being plugged into each GPU? Or Is Crossfire limited to only one Monitor?

3) When gaming on 3 monitors+ 3 GPU's will the GPU's sync the image themselves through the crossfire bridge or will the CPU handle the syncing? Or will I have to force vsync?
This is why I asked about crossfire. My current Gaming desktop (click my profile name to see my other systems) is using 2x 8600 GTS in SLI. Monitor 2&3 is connected to the 2nd GPU and Monitor 1 is connected to the 1st GPU.

Thank you for your help in advance.

1. Unlike Nvidia, all monitors should be plugged to main/primary card, else will break crossfire by default. You will be able to setup Eyefinity upto 4-5 monitors fir the 6xxx series non Eyefinity6 version. You can plug monitors to second or third card as extended dekstop only. In crossfire configuration you have the options to plug as many monitors to the output port of primary the card has, either in extended mode or Single Large Surface (SLS - Eyefinity).

2. Answer in #1.

3. It will be too long to write, so here it is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMD_CrossFireX

If you like, you can list all your monitors and what available inputs each have such as DVI, DP, D-SUB or HDMI and what are the cards you are using, we could configure the Eyefinity setup for you.

With Crossfire setups, only the outputs on the primary card function at all. So all monitors must be connected to the primary card.

Its also worth pointing out that if you plan on running 3 monitors you must have one of them connected via displayport, either directly, or through an *active* adapter.

I was going to use SoftTH for the surround gaming.

So if I understand correctly, this means that I can't have Crossfire because the monitors are plugged into different GPU's. ok

I heard about the monitor flickering/ no signal of eyefinity. I wanted to avoid that and be able to have my games span across all three monitors. By plugging them into the DVI ports.

Thank you for the replies, I was hoping this would work because my Three 17" LCD's are not the exact same sync polarity. One is KDS and two are NEC, I don't want to force a polarity sync change (I see the option in my nivida control panel)because I don't know how that'll effect the KDS monitor (the NEC's are twins).

With SoftTH I don't have to worry about these DVI/Monitor limitations. But SoftTH is limited to DX9 only (so far no DX10/DX11 support yet).
