I followed this guide step by step, but upon rebooting after cleaning the registry entries, I found that my nvidia driver had automatically re-installed itself.

After uninstalling and the 1st reboot I noticed that my resolution had reverted back to a lower default setting. After deleting all nvidia folders and then cleaning the registry, I rebooted a second time. After the reboot I noticed that my resolution was back at 1440p. Low and behold the Nvidia drivers are once again present in Control Panel > Programs and Features, but this time I cannot uninstall them. I recieve the following error message when trying to do so: "There was a problem starting C:\Program Files \Nvidia Corporation\Installer2\InstallerCore\NVI2.DLL The specified module could not be found."

I'll try installing the full driver again and then starting the removal all over again and post my results.

If you uninstall a driver, after downloading a new driver from Nvidia website, either disable the internet or disble automatic 'Windows' update or you will have to unnistall again as Windows will automatically download a driver which is always out of date I might add.

Yup agreed, but so far I never encounter the issue like that. For safety just un plug your internet cable from PC then do un install smile.gif

To avoid Windows automatically installing drivers

Start>type gpedit.msc

Administrative Templates > System > Device Installation > Device Installation Restrictions > navigate to the bottom and double click "Prevent installation of devices not described by other policy settings"

enable this option and then OK and close

Now windows will not automatically install drivers for new devices it finds.

Quoted from an old post in this thread (sorry, I don't remember the author, I've just pasted it in a text file on my hard drive).

You have to revert this change before installing the driver again or it will not work.

I used to use similar methods to this in the bad drivers days for both camps (98/XP/Etc) but, doing it this specific method for Windows 7 actually fixed my OCing problem. For some reason during the last 4-5 driver updates I could not OC unless I dropped back down to 344.48. I would apply OCs in Afterburner as always and every time I applied the settings Afterburner would immediately drop back down to stock speeds and also would not allow over-volting. Well after doing this I am now able to fully OC my GPU again to 1575/8000 on 347.52 @ 1.275V. Thanks for the guide, helped me out a lot.
