Does windows keep record of older drivers somewhere else that it is pulling from? It's not pulling from online that's for sure.

To avoid Windows automatically installing drivers

Start>type gpedit.msc

Administrative Templates > System > Device Installation > Device Installation Restrictions > navigate to the bottom and double click "Prevent installation of devices not described by other policy settings"

enable this option and then OK and close

Now windows will not automatically install drivers for new devices it finds.

You had to look only a few pages back, post #517.

How do I access it? Nothing comes up when I search.

I found it hard to believe this wouldn't be included with the O/S also.. sure sure enough after a search it looks like you have to DOWNLOAD IT as an add-on. WTH?!?

Run "gpedit.msc"? I'm assuming you're referring to the Local Group Policy Editor, right?

I do but win 8.1 just brings up an Internet article and not the actual application/service.

That is definitely weird then. Local Group Policies are always present in Windows OS'es.
