Prime95: One Core Getting Less Tests?

Thread Starter
Hey all,
So today, while messing around with a Phenom II x4 965 that I have in one of my computers, I was OC'ing it, and then stress testing it with Prime95. I noticed after running Prime95 for a while, that the Worker 1 window is consistently finishing with three less tests then the other three. For example, right now it is on Test 8 while the other three are on Test 11. Is this normal? Or does this mean something in particular? Thanks.

Actually, after going back through the test numbers, it fluctuates between being two to three tests behind.

It is because the system/you are using that core.Usually it's the first core.

It's normal.

It's because you have other things running (OS among others). It will be a service or application taking more cpu time from prime95 in that core than the others, and it's not unusual to see it happen.

That's normal. Here's why. Some cores are faster at calculating despite the set speed. A core that calculates a milestone faster than other cores is on a further incremental sub-test. As long as a core did all the calculations required by a milestone, it doesn't matter whether it was done in 6 or 7 incremental sub-tests.

Hmmmm...i never knew that!

How much is the performance difference between cores usually?

I think it can't be much and the prime95 worker 1 is late because the core it runs on is doing another job.
