From 6870 to 560ti ? - Page 2

I'm afraid this statement is incorrect.

The 560Ti is on par with a 6950. Many benches that show where one wins the other is close behind and they trade blows back and forth in various games. Both VERY comparable.

The 6870 heavily over clocked comes close but dosen't compare with a stock 6950/560Ti.

Proof 6870 OC to 6950 stock?. Had OCN members try very hard to acheive the same results but couldn't.

Just had to clarify this.

(tested it, microstutter, random compatibility and heating killed it)

Thank you for helping
As for OP.....I'd wait. End of December for AMD and mid-Jan early Feb for Nvidia for next gen cards. Will also drop current cards pricing. You can decide at that time which avenue will be better for you.

I'm at work so I can't post proof, but from a spreadsheet I have of recent testing with AlienPrime173:

AMD 955 @ 3.8

6870 @ 1000/1100:
Furmark 1.91 1080p 60 s: 1803 @ 30 FPS
Furmark 1.81 1080p 60 s: 3004 @ 50 FPS
3DMark11: P4483

6970 @ 880/1375:
Furmark 1.91 1080p 60 s: 1380 @ 22 FPS
Furmark 1.81 1080p 60 s: 2218 @ 36 FPS

6970 @ 950/1450 + 20% power boost:
Furmark 1.91 1080p 60 s: 2408 @ 40 FPS
Furmark 1.81 1080p 60 s: 3747 @ 62 FPS
3DMark11: P5114

So as you can see it sits above a stock 6970 and below a OC'd 6970.

You'll have to post it to believe it as I've shown you from OCN members which are more reliable than review sources. The 6870 couldn't catch the stock 6950 scores let alone a 6970. I find it impossible that the 6870 matches a 6970 at +20%. That 3DMark11 scores aren't comparable btw that you posted.

We'll wait for thse results.

A couple of things.

On the graphic score they weren't on par. The system with the 6870 CPU was overclocked. The sytem with the 6970 CPU not over clocked.

Since the CPU's were not the same the final benchmark would not be valid and you'd only have to look at Graphics Score.

Second point the 6870 bench showed 'invalid'.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6870 graphic score was 4519 with not a valid result on an AMD Phenom II X4 955 with OC 4114Mhz.

Core clock and memory clock of the 6870 shows '0'.

6970 graphic score was 5326 with a valid result with same CPU AMD Phenom II X4 955 but at 3600Mhz.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm sorry bud, it's an invalid arugment based on your graphic scores proof and the fact that the 6870 score was invalid. Any OCN member would concur.

Unfortunately our own OCN members proved that in the thread I've shown with results. Read through it. We worked pretty hard to match it up with the 6950 but it fell just short. The 6870 heavily over clocked even with voltage didn't catch the stock 6950.

I appreciate the debate. That's what these threads are all about, learning about our GPU's.

Here's the same info which you didn't read properly:

My Result:
955 @ 3.6 with 6870 @ 1000/1100
VALID

Couldn't find my result with a P5114 score so looked for another:
955 @ 4.1 with 6970 @ ?/?
NOT VALID

I said that I couldn't find the link of my score with the 6970 and my CPU so I found another one.

The fact remains that a big overclock on a 6870 can surpass a stock 6970. I'll try to get my friend's 6970 again and post 2 of my own results again.

When I had to RMA my 6870 they gave me a 560 ti instead ....as everyone has pointed out it performs better and is closer to the 6950. In saying this though i dont believe the difference is great enough to warrant £170 on an upgrade.

You can believe what you want but your wrong. Your also showing invalid comparisons which don't count. It means that the bencmark was flawed.

A 6950 can be unlocked or heavily over clocked to stock 6970 would be accurate.

The 6870 though is a great card is not as good of an over clocking card. Just fact. It couldn't even catch up to a 6950 stock let alone a 6970 stock.

Proof 6870 OC to 6950 stock?. Had OCN members try very hard to acheive the same results but couldn't.

If what you said was true EVERYONE would have 6870's. It'd be wise to not post wrong info as it's not helpful to new members ( like yourself ) with wrong advice.

Anyone else on this matter like to chime in?

Well like I said, I will get my friends 6970 and run the tests again. The only problem is that 3DMark11 almost never reports the proper speeds on my 6870. Of all my results, it posted the clocks properly once and that was in 3DMark06.

EDIT 1:

Here's where I originally posted my results, they will be updated with re-runs of the same tests on my FX-8150 and I'll add 3DMark11 validations to the post as well.
