Nvidia vs Amd Card Choice

Thread Starter
Hi hope you can help me out on which card to choose:

AMD 6970 2gig

Nvidia 570 1.2 gig.

I would like input regarding the lowest gpu usage at high video settings (to lower load temps and sound), and driver stability in most games.

For example does either card (at single or 2x sli/xfire) have issues where gpu usage becomes unstable for split seconds every few minutes during graphic intense games? I've had issues before where fps drops very low for a split second then moves back to normal inexplicably.

I'm hoping to upgrade to at least two in the future, but just buying one in the next week to month dependent on price and sales. I hope to build a full system by winter holiday break.

So I apprecaite your help.

I don't know about Nvidia as last card I owned from them was a 6800 lol, if your doing way over 1080p or multi monitor get the AMD card as it has more buffer memory, I have a 5850 and with each new drivetr the card seems to get better as now I get like 5/6fps more in GTA IV than when I first got the card and and it runs a littler cooler than with the older drivers but AMD (ATI) always seem to put out not so good drivers for a newer card but they always get better over time.

This seems to be the big question tonight.

The 6970 compares very closely 570 in single or dual set up. OCN Proof.

As for the FPS drops....I believe your talking about 'throttling'. This happens when the GPU gets too hot on cards with saftey features to save the card from frying.

Multiple reasons that can cause over heating:

It can happen due to poor fan setting, or higher over clocks than the card can handle.

It can happen when you mod the BIOS to force more voltage than the cards specs set by manufacturer to acheive higher over clocks surpassing heat dissipation limits.

It can happen if software settings are not set properly in GPU controls like CCC or Nvidia Control panel.

It happens to all cards if these specific situations arise.

You'll be happy either way. Go with best deal if your budgeted would be the most practical option. Good luck and post back if you decide and update us.
