[PCgameshardware]Battlefield 3: 11 Radeon and GeForce graphics cards tested - Page 20

post #191 of 204
I was running it fine with 580 SLI 1920x1080 @ everything maxed out including AA but I also set 'Highest Quality' in the Nvdia Control Panel. Don't know if this really adds extra quality? Anyway my FPS barely went under 65!
post #192 of 204
Well, judging on this article, I should be able to play BF3 with max.settings @ 1440x900 resolution with the rig in my sig? It says that gtx 460 1gb runs at 33,9 fps, which means it will run better because I have OCed my card.. is the AA included in the first graph (1680x1050 resolution) ?

The average gamer doesn't want to hear that he has to go out and buy new hardware to play a game. Saying you need two 580's in SLI does not help sell more copies of the game. I have no idea how you are thinking that their stated requirements were somehow a marketing scheme. If they were touting this game's Ultra graphics on a single 5770, then that would be impressive. Not only that, it would be extremely accessible, which is arguably more important to selling copies.

With the game completely maxed in multiplayer, the hardware requirements go up immensely. The single player does not have anywhere near the view distance that the multiplayer maps have. 2x 580's with every setting maxed out for consistent 60+ FPS is not hard to fathom.

Is it necessary? No, but neither is Ultra graphics. Pick your poison.

So what are the expected framerates for a 2500k + 6870 at 1920x1080 at high IN MULTIPLAYER? (not ultra)

It was a marketing scheme FOR NVIDIA perpetrated by EA. Notice they weren't saying that it would take 2 6970's? They got people to go out and spend millions on Nvidia cards before the game was even out.

Except that even both multiplayer and single player, I'm still getting the same framerates. It's nothing more than a marketing gimmick brought on by nvidia. The only difference here is that while the game looks good, it really could go for some more optimization on the driver end and from DICE.

The draw distance is debatable since most maps STILL end up looking like a blank slate from a distance. Ontop of that, it barely used over a gig of memory at anytime on my 580 no matter whats going on. I've played TONS of multiplayer conquest large, large TDM and basically anything. I have yet to see this thing dip into the 40's. And if you read some of these post in the Battlefield 3 performance thread, the 570 and 580 are performing nearly the same!

I could probably be at a solid 60 if DICE got the ball rolling and we saw some more optimization. But there probably won't be any and we'll be told to upgrade our hardware. What a crock.

auto bf3 gives me 1080p ultra textures and everything on high, AA def off, HBAO on getting 70-90 multiplayer

change some thing around so its mostly ultra, low shadows, AA def off, AFx4, HBAO on getting 60-80 multiplayer

this is w/o OC'n the 6970... oc adds about 7-8fps

usage:
core 0 = ~85%
core 1 = ~70%
core 1 = ~70%
core 1 = ~70%
RAM = ~3.6GB other things are running
GPU = @99%
vRAM = ~900MB
