SRW208P with a POE and Cisco AP (can't member which one atm) biggrin.gif

I use other small linksys routers for fun but they all run DD-WRT

I will say that I have 0 experience as a network admin and most of the setup of the 208 took me the better part of 2 weeks but its amazing what you can do with such a little bit of knowledge.

I'm running a cisco 877 with a 2950 switch at home, running vlans, vrf for the IP SEC GRE tunnel to work for remote access, well after I 'modified' the checkpoint

I've got my Cisco Academy at the university so for the most part I just telnet into the racks and I can get going. I live off Packet Tracer, GNS, & Boson for the most part. Only thing i've got Cisco is a WRT400N which is serving DD-WRT for my room in residence.

Your about where im upto in CCNA, Sometime Jan i plan to take my exam.

I have just being using PacketTracer, GNS3 and vLabs from elementk through the IEEE Computer Society. The vlabs are good as you actually SSH (remote login) into real Cisco gear in labs in California.

My Gift from my wife after passing CCNA will be a Cisco Home Lab Kit just made from refurbished devices, i hope for arround $1000, i have looked at numerous sites and even ebay and found some good Home Lab kits out there.

Anyway, Goodluck in your studies and exam

Sooner or latter some gear is going to have to come.I am in the 3 rd quarter of the CCNA prep series and I still do not feel comfortable buying any gear because I think setup difficulties will take too much of my time. This 3rd quarter (the switching quarter) is a very tough one (at least for me) and assigned labs are tough enough. This is the quarter you learn spanning tree and how the switches learn the network. You are so very correct, learing from the book or Packet Tracer only takes you so far,and that is not far enough.Having a CCNA lab is really something to work for

PT should be enough for doing your CCNA as so the CCIEs say on the Cisco learning Network.

What books are you using?

Im using W.Odem CCNA exam prep lib
Steve MacQuerry CCNA Study guide lib

Boson exam that came with Odems book
I bought Cisco's own pratice exam but shoulda spent that money on upgrading to Boson exam sim max!

Goodluck too with your studies

I have an older 3640 but I don't do anything with it as it has no ports / wic or hwics (forgot for that model). I used it when I was in a Cisco netacad class but after that it kinda got stored away... These days I know a lot more about how to position Cisco equipment than how to use it though...lol.

I have a stack of gear that I need to whip out for CCNP Route (a couple 2600XM, 3660, bunch of L2 switches).

Daily use is the ASA 5505 on my desk and the 2651XM in the closet that runs CallManager express for a 7970 phone.
