Anyone run three monitors with 1GB of vRAM?

Thread Starter
I'm going Eyefinity in early December, hopefully. I've been watching review videos and seeing posts on here saying 1GB of vRAM will not be ideal for running three monitors (each monitor at 1680x1050).

If worst comes to worst, I'll have to sell my cards and grab a 2GB card. However, does anyone have personal experience with running three monitors for gaming with 1GBs of vRAM? How was it and what settings did you have to run to maintain a comfortable play through?

Thanks.

Best advice I can give is to not do it. You'll have a hard time with even basic games. Go for a 2GB card if you want any playability. My 5870 E6 has 2GB of vram and it helped a ton.

Ive run Dirt2 with 2xAA smooth with 2x 5850 on my setup below.

Maybe even 4xAA on Dirt2 don't remember.

So 2x AA is might be OK in most games.

Not sure about Metro2033, I think 2xAA is still doable but lower graphics.

What settings were you at aside from the AA? I'll disable AA and such all together if that's the main issue. I can deal with some jaggy textures for awhile.

I run eyefinity all day without real issue.
2 x 1gb 5970 (1gb useable) Pretty much same as you.

make sure your cards are overclocked decently
run the resolution without bezel compensation to save some frames
hold off on AA and AF (set it up without it, then experiment by adding.)

BFBC2 57xx X 1080 all high, 1xaf and aa 80-100 FPS. Nill issues.
If I run at 6049x1080 (bezel comp on) the FPS can drop to the 60's sometimes, which isnt bad, but I think I have micro stutter issues there so it seems lower.
Ive high FPS and compedative with eyefinity.
(WoW, assasins creed, crysis 2 (not on max), Dragon age, AvP all play fine as well)

TBH I dont know why peopel are saying 2gb is mandatory, Except maybe because of AA and AF? 1gb has served me very well and Im planning on trifire BF3 Eyefinity with 5970 + 5850. Ask in a few days how it goes.

Wow, thanks for the post man! So yeah, I guess I'll just have to take my cards as far as I can. I really have no issue with completely disabling AA and AF to run games on at least High, that's fine. I just don't want to have to go through the hassle of selling these cards right now since I just got them.

I ran 25 man WoW raids on eyefinity with a single 5870 1GB and it was absolutely fine. I've also done League of Legends on the same setup with no hitches as well. That either of those are super high end (especially LoL) but I feel like the 25 man WoW raids were actually a decent test. I currently run crossfire 5870's and yea my overall FPS is better but I'd say dual 5850's should be fairly decent. I run 3x 1680x1050 as well.
