getting an ssd, can i ghost my drive?

getting a force gt 120gb but i have a 150gb raptor is it possible to ghost the data over?

(only using 60 gb of the raptor)

if i can any good programs to do it or can i just like copy all the content over lol.....

the only way i know of to ghost a drive is if the target drive is equal to or greater than the size of source....

better off backing up data and doing a fresh install

Fresh install will avoid headaches.

I did it on mine (from a 160 gig HDD (42 gigs used) to a 60 gig SSD) with no problems.

I used WD edition of Acronas.

I have read that imaging from a mechanical to an SSD is not good for the SSD. When you install Windows 7 on an SSD, there are certain optimization's done so that the SSD performs as it should.

Windows 7 will realize you have a ssd and set everything up as needed (turns off defrag mainly).

I believe one of the optimizations is aligning the partition. Naturally this happens during installation.

hmmm well I'll back up the raptor and if I have an issue with the ghosting than I can just transfer the important files :-)
