Why do hardware manufacturers get sued for software? Isn't it the same hardware? I guess that brings me to the next question: can an Android phone be modded to run WP7 and vice versa? Again, same logic of same hardware...

So Android infringes on IP of both MS and Oracle, supposedly. I wonder if Android has any patents of its own. It doesn't matter much for Google since they aren't paying royalties, but I wonder if they are trying to work around some of the patents rather than infringing.

well this makes a lot of sense, since none of android manufacturers wants to pay apple, their direct competitor, the logical way to using others' IP would be to pay microsoft, whose windows phone is not a big threat to android eco-system.

tl;dr android manufacturers just don't like paying its biggest competitor Apple, they rather feed the little one like M$ (windows phone)

No, Apple has shown they will not settle for money. They will not rest until they force all Android phones of the market.

I suppose if one does not want choice and favors a fruit brand to have all the market share, one would support Apple's position.

Edit: MS' patents are more substantial than Apple's patents. Apple would be violating a lot of Microsoft's smart phone patents although they are in the clear since they likely pay money for cross-licensing.

Yeah, Apple is a company that really doesn't like competition. I'd say Apple has really become the company they've been accusing Microsoft of being all this time.

Apple doesn't want to just get a one-up on Android. They want to kill it.
Which is probably why Via (working with Samsung) is now suing Apple, as sort of a mutually assured destruction.
