RAID 0 with 2x 500GB + 400GB possible?

I have 2x 500GB Samsung F3's and one 400GB Samsung F3.

Is it possible to use the 400GB HDD to make a 3 HDD array?

I was thinking that if I never went over the storage capacity of the 400GB that it might work. I only use an average of 200GB so I just want maximum performance without having to buy a SSD.

Also, I am using my onboard RAID, not a controller.

Yup, shouldn't be a problem. I used to have 2x250 and 1TB together lol. It only gave me around 8gb useable though.

So that might happen if I try it? I would need more than than that for the OS alone.

You should be able to just then have a 3x400GB raid 0.

Going to reformat my HDDs and set them up for RAID 0 now.

Here is a quick look at the performance of my current RAID 0 and the single HDD.

Hopefully I will be getting about 320Mb/s Read and 300Mb/s Write or better to have been worth my time reinstalling my OS/programs/drivers/games.

Any predictions of the speed?

I'll post results later tonight.

I'm predicting 318 avg between seq read and write. Price is Right rules, closest without going over wins.

I have had negative results with this. I don't understand how this could happen. Their all 7200 RPM drives.

I haven't installed SP1 yet because I was thinking of just going back to my original raid setup. Would SP1 increase my read/write speeds to what they should be?

The only things I have installed so far are CCleaner, AVG, ATI drivers, IE9, and the HDD benchmark. I also defraged before I ran the benchmark.

Here are the results.

Wow. Did not expect that. There's something missing. Adding another drive to a raid-0 should always be near linear in sequential performance.

i guess the older, 400GB spinpoint was not as good as my 500GB. Now I have to try and find another 500GB before there non existant.
