Stupid choice to buy g15?

Thread Starter
Well I've had my g15 second revision for 2 years now, and i've lately been looking at some mechanical keyboard. I've read a bit about them and how they're so much better when compared to rubber keyboards like mine. I've been feeling bad for buying a g15 especially at the price point of $120, do you think this was a bad investment or do you guys think I should think about getting a mechanical one, now I do like the LCD for monitoring my computer, but it's not really a priority and I never use the macro keys because I don't play mmo's (maybe when i play guild wars 2 in the future), but anyways do you think this is a good buy or bad, should I get a mechanical keyboard when i buy my new comp in a 2 when i go to college or should I stick with my g15.

If you've got the spare change...pick up a mech kb. CM is coming out with a mech kb (black, blue, and brown switches) in the US market around the $80ish dollar mark. They'll be a good deal at that price.

The feel of a mech kb is leagues ahead of a rubber dome. I don't think I will ever go back to rubber domes if I have a choice.

I have 5 G15's (bought used online from Best Buy for about 45.00 each. I kind of like them but certainly would like to try mechanical.I did get them for folding rigs so I could check the temp easy (with Everest and the display)

EDIT: the G15's we all used but in nice shape.

I replaced my G15 with a Das Professional S, a difference you can feel. It took some getting used to but I enjoy not having the LCD screen that wouldn't work half the time due to drivers.

I play a lot of MMO's but since you don't. Maybe get a mechanical.

In hindsight, you'll feel bad about a LOT of purchases. I used my G15 first revision for 4 years before I swapped off to a mechanical, and it was more because of space restraints than particular feel.

That being said, you will definitely FEEL the difference in typing experience between the G15 and a mechanical. Now whether they are "revolutionarily" or "amazingly" better than the G15 you've got is mostly subjective. I personally think that it's better, but my G15 has also been a tremendous workhorse (helps that I got it for $75), but if you don't use the screen, macro keys and/or media keys, then the next step up is probably a mechanical.

In short, I don't miss typing on the G15, but every time I type on a normal rubber dome keyboard, I miss typing on my mechanical (or my mac's scissor switches).

If you do switch off to a mechanical, then the best segueing switch to get you settled from your G15 is probably the MX brown switch. Also if you're hurting for some backlighting, then look for the now defunct U9BL-S, or the Ducky Shine. Otherwise, other options include WASD keyboards for custom keycaps, Leopold or Rosewill for value, and Das if you're a student, cause there's a generous student discount, which makes it even more value oriented than the Rosewill or Leopold.

I have a g15 rev one. I'm tired of it. Drivers dont work properly for the LCD screen. Size and looks of it don't appeal to me anymore. I'm definitely going to pick up an OCN Ducky Brown/Black by christmas. Hopefully TankGuys has some sort of sale/deal going on by that time. I could definitely use a legit keyboard right about now.
