How good are Blu ray drives?

In terms of can they do 24p blu ray playback and take advantage of 120hz displays and how comparable is it to a PS3's blu ray player

I'm trying to turn my gaming system into an HTPC as well to hook up to a reciever and a 120hz display

a disc drive is a disc drive. it will read what you put in it (assuming proper format).

More important to bluray playback is the software suite used. I used CyberLink PowerDVD that had an array of options+hardware playback... A free alternative is VLC w/respective plugins.

hmm, you can play blu ray off VLC? I have powerdvd and it is a *****ty program

just tried this software after reading your post. "unable to play this blu ray. 400." was what i got for The Big Lebowski (my test blu ray, store bought, not burned). i can't find anything in settings to fix this. hmm.

I also tried DAplayer to play my Inception Blu ray and recieved the "unable to play this blu ray. 400" error. Solutions welcome! smile.gif
