NOOB New Build

Thread Starter
Greetings! Please see below for the build that i am planning:

Tower Budget ~3500.00 USD
Monitor Budget ~650.00 USD

CPU: i7 2600k
Motherboard:ASRock Z68 Extreme7 Gen3
GPU: MSI GTX 580 Lightning(3mb)
RAM G.Skill Ripjaw 8gb
HD 1 OS: Crucial M4 256gb
HD 2 Storage:1 TB
PSU: Corsair AX750
Monitor: Dell UltraSharp U2410 (1920x1200 res.)
Speakers: Dell soundbar (don’t ask I have limited space)
OS: Windows 7 Pro
Case: HAF 932 (i know it fits my limited space)

I have a couple of questions and i would appreciate any input:

1. I am only planning on 1 GPU and the MB seems a bit overkill. Any recommendations?

2. I'm looking for a 4.5-5.0 overclock. Should i be using air cooling or liquid cooling. My ambient room temp stays around 70-75 F. Please recommend specific models.

3. Regarding the case i have a limit of 22.5"H and 9.6"W. Taking questions 1 and 2 into consideration do you have any case recommendations?

4. Monitor recommendations? Please see my budget above.

5. General Build recommendations? Please see my budget above.

Thank you in advance for your input!

Can you not wait until mid November 12 for Sandy-E ? If you are spending that much money I really think that you should. You're build is great atm really good, it just seems like you are upgrading for the sake of upgrading.

This

600T should fit the bill for a single 580 and get good temps, but if you maybe plan to water cool just get the HAF now.
also oc is really dependent on your chip. I'd say go air first and see what your chip can handle ( you might have a great chip with high oc or hit a wall at 4.5 no matter what you throw at it)
Unless you have the budget for water

I highly suggest you wait for SB-E.

@ AndrewM and SeanW - I can definitely wait, but it was my understanding that 2700 (that's sandy-e correct?) is very similar to an overclocked 2600k.

@Thi3P - my tower budget is approximately 3500 USD. If you'd like to tweak my build i'm open to any input.

Please forgive my grammar I'm ESL.

Thanks in advance for any input!

With a budget like that I would also suggest waiting for SB-E.

Overall your build looks pretty good. However, I recommend that you get that 580 for a good price. The 6xx series will be out within 6 months so I wouldn't pay top dollar.

For your first build I highly recommend that you DO NOT go for water cooling. You will have enough to do without having to worry about setting up a loop.

EDIT: If you do ever plan on getting another 580 I would get a PSU that can handle a bit more wattage. http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforc...-sli-review/14

Their 580 SLI system pulled 719W with a full load. You wouldn't see that kind of energy draw from anything you do normally, but I would like a bit of a wattage cushion.

Thanks for the input!

@SeanW - TY for the link. I will actually hold off until the Ivybridge! 2nd Q 2012 doesnt seem that far off.

@Atomic - I will be staying with 1 GPU card It seems to me that going SLI creates more problems than it's worth.

Sorry I don't know where the second white came from about the 580
Was only meant to quote the waiting part

Edit: Your 480 is already a beast! However if you have the budget for the upgrade then I guess the 580 is better

In that case that PSU choice is fine. Ivy Bridge will be worth the wait.

Which socket do you think that will you go with? 1155 or 2011? With that kind of budget I would go with 2011 myself.
