So my i5 2500k is crap, however, I just got 4.8GHz!

So my i5 2500k is crap, however, I just got 4.8GHz, albeit at 1.45v.

Stability wise I passed 100 passes of Intel Burn Test, and have been using it for about 5 hours with no bsods/hiccups.

It's not a 'good' vcore, but I at least hit 4.8GHz

I recently replaced the TIM on my 2500k, and used MX-2 which shaved roughly 15c off my H50's load temps. I then added another fan on the rad, for push/pull, and netted roughly 5c more in load temps while using IBT.

I'm very happy with it, and now I have a 4.8GHz OC to be happy with.

Previously I wasn't able to hit more than 4.5GHz since my temps were so bad.

Anyways, not much point to this thread, other than: yay!

PS. I plan on running blend for 12 hours tonight

My chip is about the same as yours dude - sure it sucks when you consider the results some other people get but at the end of the day, it's done the job!

Yes sir. 4.8GHz FTW!

But, side note:

I followed your advice, per the Sandy Stable Guide, regarding the 124 bsod. I use manual instead of offset and I enabled EIST, C1/3/6 to get rid of the bsod 124 code.

I have had that problem the whole time I've had the pc.

While Idle, I would get bsods, no matter what vcore I fed it. While stress testing, it wasn't a problem, but idle I would get bsod 124 all day long.

Weird eh?

Let's hope this fixes it. (enabling c1/3/6 and EIST)

We both got it in Toronto and i got about the same CPU. 4.8Ghz and no more no matter the voltage.
Edit: Also same problem with idle 124 BSOD all the time. Now i have to use 1.45v idle and 1.416v load to keep it stable.

jam3s, a word of friendly advice.

I wouldn't post threads where the title says that your chip is crap. This thread will come back to haunt you when you try to sell your chip. It's not crap; 1.45 is within spec. Your OC is great!

True, I just wish I could do the same at lower vcore.

4.8GHz at 1.45v Vcore at full load, and if 12 hours + P95 Blend stable is not crap at all.

I had a 2500K that needed the same Vcore for 4.7GHz, and never could get 4.8GHz stable.

You have had the 124 BSOD, probably because you have 124 + reps
