time for a new cpu?

Thread Starter
I have a 955 BE its been overclocked many many times since I got it about 2 years ago but now when I get it to around 3.8 ghz it forgets about one core and becomes a tri-core at least according to device manager, hardware ID, and every other piece of software I have also when that happens I can no longer read core temps is there any specific reason why this is happening or should I just get a new cpu if so any suggestions money is no object

I really would like to stay AMD as well, but they blew it with the FX CPU's.

I'm gonna get one of the Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge processors soon.

If all you do is game, I'd very much recommend you an i5-2500k.

Best of luck.

if you really don't want to go intel, run your 955 at stock *Blasphemy! * if that solves the problem.

Bulldozer doesn't seem to be worth it at the moment, wait a bit to see if amd has a trick up their sleeve in the near future.
