Corsair Force 3 60GB & m68mt-s2p... horrible performance!

I know the board is only sataII 3gbps capable. I originally meant to use the ssd for a different computer, but I didn't. Anyways, I'm getting benchmark results in the sequential read department of 150mbps range. Terrible, even by sataII/3gbps standards.

I tried updating the ssd firmware, currently on 1.2, but the corsair ssd update program wont even find/recognize my drive. Then the bios of the mobo doesn't show an option to switch to ahci, if that would make a difference.

anything short of returning the board, what can I do?

I'll run the bench again and post a screencap.

Follow my guide here
http://www.overclock.net/ssd/1133897...ing-guide.html

Edit: To update the firmware you cant have the SSD as your main OS drive. You will have to plug it into another PC or load windows on an HDD temporarily.

What are you using to bench the drive?

If it's as-ssd or crystaldiskmark, the numbers are right.

If it's Atto, they're wrong.

what would affect performance more? not being in ahci mode or an older firmware?

I know for a fact that 1.2 is an old version for the force3... but I can't seem to find the mode setting in the bios, so I can't tell what mode I'm in. All I know is that it is very slow. And I did use AS-SSD.

Ahci would not bring it down to 150mbps. I lose around 40mbps from ide mode on sata 3.0gbps, which is around 230MB/s or so.

150mbps looks very much like a fast hard drive, (hope this is not insulting in any way) but did you by any chance select your hdd as the benchmark target? (I did this before x.x)

I would also like to mention that the nforce chipset on the m68 motherboard you have did cause me some troubles hitting full sata 3.0gbps speeds (my previous board was an asus m4n68-t with the same chipset). My vertex hit faster speeds after I uninstalled the nforce storage drivers and used the default ones. Not sure if that might apply to you

Firmware should not make a huge difference, sandforce-2281 drives have been around for awhile, and most of them can hit their rated performance out of the box (actually, that is the only time they do, before they get dirty...)

Good luck haha

If you used as-ssd then nothing is wrong. The Force 3 is equal to the Agility 3 performance wise. The Agility 3 is only rated for 180mb sequential read in as-ssd. As-ssd uses incompressible data which the Force 3 can't handle at max speeds.

Download Atto and you'll get the 525/475 sequential speeds that they advertise with.

Second this. But OP should look for around 280/270 MB/s instead of the above speeds, since he is using a sata II only board.

But I would like to point out that OP's 150MB/s read is slightly lower than the 200-210MB/s I see for many sandforce 2nd gen controllers in AS-SSD.

For now, I've just learned to deal with the fact that the seq. read is going to be low. As long as the random read/write is fine, then I'll be happy. Programs open quickly and windows boots before the logo even touches.

Try turning off power (c) states and retest. I found on my Force GT that a c state was giving me 265mbs write. turning it off returned it to 560 read, 485 write.
