Early LCD monitors had some pretty awful issues when not viewed from directly in front of the screen. These days the technology has really minimized this flaw, but if you still have a cheap monitor on hand you might want to pull it out and give this hack a try. [Chris Harrison] is using oblique viewing angles to display additional information on cheap monitors.

The ATM machines for ANZ bank have screens that go totally blurry on off angles. But this solution is probably a lot cheaper than that!

I doubt it. The effect depends on the image and it's colors and since with videos you have a different image for every frame it would probably involve editing each frame individually.

land rover screens have that trick two way lcd where the driver sees the satnav and the passenger sees a dvd movie or a different screen. it probably uses this principle.
