Simple Build Required For My Folks

Thread Starter
Hey guys, my folks need to upgrade their computer. Currently they are running at Intel Celeron with 128MB RAM I believe! Anyways, mom has finally had enough of it and wants a new system. She doesn't want to spend more then $500 on it. Just the system is required. They don't have data on their computer at all so I was thinking just a small SSD drive would be sufficient. What can you guys put together for me? I just need a simple build for everyday browsing. No dedicated graphics or anything of the likes required.

I don't think a ssd is even required... just use a HDD. And do you want a intel build?

SSD ain't required by any means, but It'd be nice. Build does not have to be intel. Anything current would already be a significant upgrade for them.

I'm guessing that they aren't gonna overclock... so I'm suggesting a AMD build.

I'll be using NCIX.com for the parts and prices since you're in Toronto.

$80 - Intel Pentium G620 2.6GHz dual core processor
$72 - MSI H67MA-E45 motherboard
$32 - 4GB (2x2GB) G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3-1600mhz memory
$86 - OCZ Agility 3 60GB Sata3 Solid State Drive
$50 - Case with 400watt power supply
$120 - Windows 7 Home Premium x64

Total before tax and shipping: $440

Right now, an SSD is a great option as hard drives are very expensive due to the shortage.

Hi,

What can you carry over from the old rig?

Staying current as to speed and value.

If Intel.

2500k.
Amd 6950.
4-8g 1600 ram.
Board that natively supports Sata III.
WD sata III 7200 Drive size as to storage needs and take advantage of sata III.
PS that would support the vid card.

Could go with less CPU and Vid but upgradable on down the line.
The Egg sometimes offers Combo deals that save a little.

My 2 cents.

newegg has a Lenovo H420 Prebuilt for $349.99. With keyboard and mouse.
Sandy Bridge Pentium 620, 4 GB Ram, 500 GB hdd, Windows 7.
Unlikely to do better with Operating System.
SSD or other options should be possible.
