Interesting quote from Tom's write up:

"Perhaps more worrying for AMD is that, while the GeForce cards are also hit pretty hard by MSAA, the impact is far less detrimental. At no point does the addition of 4x MSAA take an Nvidia board from playable to unplayable (aside from maybe the GeForce GTX 285 at 1680x1050). AMD can’t say the same."

Not what I'd expect since AMD boards have the VRAM advantage. I wonder what's wrong with their AA processing.

So why not just get a mobo that can run 16/8/8 and run 3 6970's and end this all right now. WIN!

That would be a killer setup.

From Techspot:

While some things have changed since we tested the Battlefield 3 beta a month ago, overall the performance trends were very much the same.
Being blatant for a second, the Radeon performance both sucked and impressed. Both AMD and Nvidia supplied us with their own version of a "reviewers guide" for Battlefield 3 along with their latest drivers.

Nvidia didn’t bother to compare their products to AMD’s when putting together their reviewers guide. AMD, on the other hand, included extensive testing putting products from both companies head to head. That testing cast the Radeon series in a good light, however we found it odd that in virtually every test AMD used the Ultra settings but with MSAA completely disabled.

When we started testing on our own it became apparent why AMD did this. With MSAA enabled the performance sharply declines with Radeon boards and previous generation Nvidia products make AMD’s current generation hardware look foolish.
However disabling MSAA allows AMD to catch up to Nvidia, as you saw in our High quality 1680x1050, 1920x1200 and 2560x1600 tests.

Wow AMD.....VERY shady marketing practices.

Why not run Tri-SLi 580's instead?

Nice find RawFoodPhil, I'm reposting the charts here for easier reading.

OCT 28th Benches Final Release BF3 .

Proves my point that for every slanted website there's another that shows something else entirely and both are taking money from advertising.

Hence why an honest benching done by OCN members carry more wieght in my book.

No personal attacks trying to discredit somone because they might not fully agree. No calling anyone names because they've shown different results. No being upset because what was shown or said by someone else dosen't agree with my view. Being adult, unlike one in particular.

Do I agree the 6970 is better price/performance than the 580, currently except for the PNY GTX 580 $409.99, yes I do. Should pricing drop across the board, then I'll rethink it.

The GTX 580 is the better card IMO for sheer performance set price aside and also king of the 1920x1200 resolution for single GPU. Where resolution goes up the 580 3GB wins over the 6970 2GB as VRAM is king. Prior to the 3GB version for a while the 6970 2GB held this spot.

Well, I'm done posting here as long as I'm not personally attacked with lies about me. Your welcome to show anything you like and disagree with me.

This argument is silly because at the end of the day either card will do great in somones rig as both can handle gaming todays games and either crossfire or SLI option will murder.

Hopefully I don't get burned to the stake for saying both cards will do a great job.
