Acrylic Sheets- Ordering

Thread Starter
I am going to build a custom desk (7'x2.5'x8in") and was wondering the best place to order custom cut acrylic sheets. It has to be that big for triple 27" monitors.

I plan to build it once I move into my new place. My goal is to put a X79 system and a AMD server inside it, all watercooled. Its going to be black acrylic with a clear top so you can see it all. I have the dimensions/plans for it drawn up on graphing paper for now. When I get time I may try to learn Google Sketchup and throw it in their.

I thought of using sheet metal, but acrylic will look nicer and be much stronger.

8 inch thick acrylic is going to cost you an arm and a leg

i'd honestly try to find a local plastics shop to buy from since shipping it might crack or chip it

no. the desk it self will be 7'Lx2.5'Wx8in Deep. The acrylic itself will be cut into smaller sizes via laser either 1/2" or 1/4" thick. I have their dimensions already. 12 pieces all together.

oh, haha, i don't think you can get the top piece shipped without shipping it freight(i'm assuming it's one solid piece)

i still think your best bet would be to call around to local plastic shops, if they don't have it on hand, they will know how to order it for you

That's still going to be quite heavy. Shipping may kill the price, you might look around your area for a plastics supplier like was suggested. I really have had great luck with http://www.delviesplastics.com/. There prices and customer service have been great.

Lots of people seem to like http://www.usplastic.com/ and http://www.tapplastics.com/ as well. I haven't used these ones though.

Ive used Tap before, they are good for smaller orders, but my local guy can beat out their per sheet prices by a mile. But they dont do laser cutting. Shoot me the dimensions via PM and ill see what i can do for you. Are you really in Japan?

Depends on the brand ive found. The local supplier brand cuts nicer than the ChemCast you get from Tap Plastics, its almost mirror smooth. The clear cuts better than colored and therefore looks even better.

Thanks,
Reason asked because have old 690 II adv panel that was replaced when I went to the windowed version.

Wanted to try lazer cut out fan opening and then cut graphis design I
worked out on second sheet.

Would then place designed sheet on top for effect.
Having interior lighting high lite the top designed sheet.

Think that came out rite
Colored probably not as clean because of imbedded pigment.
