Editing Video/Visual Effects

Thread Starter
Hey all,

I am just starting out and just getting into some video editing with a group of friends, and were interested in starting to put together some video clips and shorts.

A couple of my friends want to do most of the editing of the takes, so I've decided I want to explore some options for the visual effects and incorporate some of those things into the videos since I wont be doing much of the other audio/video editing.

My main question is, since Im just starting out and learning as I go, what programs/software should I look into? Mostly for PC as I don't own a Mac and haven't bothered to set up any sort of Apple machine.

What software should I use and whats the best way to start learning some of the techniques and tools available to make the visual effects look good and how to incorporate those effects into the videos.

Any help is much appreciated, and if there is anything I missed, please let me know.

Cheers !

I use after effects and sony vegas, some graphics to be added are made with photoshop. learn how to mask and use transitioning effects and understand particles in after effects. it'll really help in the long run
