what's your budget? if you're on a low budget, get the Pentium Dual Core E5800. you will see gain of performance from what you have now. and affordable.

Sadly, that is the best CPU your motherboard can handle. That was like the top of the line range of the p4's...I think there was a 3.2ghz one as well, but yeah, wouldn't be worth 'upgrading' to.


What is the exact model of your E-Machine...even better, you could probably look at the board and tell us what the board is...that would make it alot easier. Chances are, since you bought it with the P4...that was about top of the range at the time..and any board sold around then wouldn't have supported the newer dual cores that came after, it is an Emachines afterall...as with any pre-built retailer, they're going to cut corners and costs.
