Hey guys,

Just brought my PC back home to my parents' and the internet connection is slooow.
I have Comcast internet and my computers are connected via Wifi
When I run speedtest.net, I get 1 Mbps Down and 3.5 Mbps Up - ping 21ms
My MacBook pro gets 27 Mbps Down and 4.2 Mbps Up ping 22ms

I don't know where to look for errors. I'm a total router / wifi noob

My router is a little old: Linksys WRT54GS v2.1 - had it for a good 6 or 7 years
My network adapter on PC is: D-Link G DWL-G510 with the latest drivers.
The network adapter has worked well in the past on other types of routers. I used to max it out @54Mbps download at my old place... So I think the hardware is good - could be a compatibility issue with the router (?) but I don't see why I would get some internet connection instead of none at all. I also did a driver uninstall / re-install.

OS = Win 7 x64
When I run ipconfig /all

Can anyone help? or at least point me in the right direction as to where I should look?
Simple hardware incompatibility? Driver issues? or am I not connecting to the router correctly?

Thanks

--Arthur

Best speedtest result of the day;

But when I run my MacBook on the same server, I get 25 to 30 Mb/s consistently

Going thru same wifi connection? and thru the same server on speedtest? Never heard of this happening unless it was hardware related. Tried resetting and disconnecting and connecting the wifi adapter back in?

Yes, I power-cycled the modem + router. Brought my connection from 0.8Mbps to 2Mbps

I've never really seen that happen unless someone went to you computer or to the router and messed maybe with the QoS settings, but even then...

I know this sounds like a weird question, but the wireless adapter, is it possible to try in another pci slot?

Hey,
I tried that last night - connection is even worse now. I'm back down to less than 1Mbps
I bought a new wireless adapter on Amazon. That should fix the problem...

This is also a very basic question, but have you tried changing the DNS servers on your IPv4 connection just as a test?

Change the primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 (Google's DNS), and remove the secondary. Then try running a speedtest again and post the results.

Lately there have been a lot of known issues resolving to certain connections using some DNS servers.
