yeah my bad i didnt read the link till after my post it does help me understand what it shows but now im wondering since my graph shows my cpu is more powerful than my gpu setup.

but my cpu line is constantly jumping around between 8 and 18 ms so that means theres somekind of issue rendering the frames via cpu yeah?

also it get way worse if i change the amount of prerendered frames to anything other than 1 or 0

but my gpu line is nice and steady my cpu line looks like its doin dubstep

anything else i can do? or just deal with the wobble?

+rep for helpin me with that

Well, as BF3 is using build-in FXAA which is identical to Nvidia's, you can turn MSAA down and still enjoy the image quality.

Quote:
Yesterday AMD sent us a benchmarking guide for Battlefield 3 written by Antal Tungler, AMD's PR Manager. In the guide, Antal recommends using Nvidia's FXAA instead of MSAA.

"You'll notice that we recommend the 'Ultra' preset in lot of our scenarios, without the use of MSAA (Multi-Sample Anti-Aliasing). This is a traditional technique to remove aliasing from objects in the visible scene. It provides significant image quality improvements, at least in most cases. But because of its nature, working only on actual geometry, some objects will not benefit at all from this process, like foliage or fences, that are just textures, sprites etc. Luckily DICE implemented a new technique as well called FXAA (Fast Approximate Anti-Aliasing), which is a process that works pretty much on all objects. Another significant difference between the two is that while FXAA has a very small impact on performance, however using MSAA can essentially cut your framerate in half."

"If we view the same data in another way we can also see that once we add 4xMSAA we are lowering our frame rate so much that we are moving from a playable to non-playable gaming scenario on some high end graphics solutions if we use the standard 30fps average for playable. Many of the extremely competitive Battlefield 3 players will want as many frames as they can get making MSAA a questionable option! We can also see from both charts provided that FXAA has a relatively low performance cost for the great level of Image Quality it provides."

"The idea behind the following pages comparisons is not to discredit MSAA or the implementation of MSAA in Battlefield 3. MSAA is a wonderful technique that can be used to improve the image quality of your gaming. Users should be wary however that MSAA will not improve all objects in the game and comes at a high performance cost to the user that may not be necessary for someone looking to maximize their performance and gaming experience. It is highly recommended that users take time to toggle settings themselves and determine if the Image Quality improvement that MSAA provides is worth the performance hit their frames per second will take while gaming."

FXAA was developed by Nvidia's Timothy Lottes in-order to compete with AMD's MLAA

Yeah you are spoiled with 120Hz. Give the developer time to collect all the informations from players to come out with a patch to iron out glitches and kinks. Nothing much we could do as a player. Just enjoy the game as is now.

Okay, this is just frustrating me to no end now. I can hardly even get to the main freaking menu!

One of three happens:

1. Game hangs during the intro (EA Logo) movie, and I have to ctrl+alt+del and close bf3.exe.

2. Black screen on startup and 100% CPU usage on all cores. No movie. Again, I have to close bf3.exe on the task manager.

3. The game actually launches (1% of the time?)

Used ATIMan after uninstalling my previous drivers as I always do. Currently on 11.10 Preview 3, 11.9 CAP4's with ULPS off. MSI Afterburner 2.2.0 Beta 8 with or without low level HW detection off doesn't make a difference.

Any idea what's up?

Try this:

1. Go to Origin folder, right click the game and select repair.

2. Uninstall current Catalyst + CAP and use Atiman to clean it up.

3. Install latest WHQL Catalyst 11.10 + 11.9 CAP4. Link http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloa...win7-64.aspx#1

4. Disable ULPS:

- Go to regedit (start > search programs and files > "regedit").
- In drop down menu: find file > type "enableulps".
- For ALL instances (keep pressing F3) change the "1" value to a "0".
- Reboot PC.

Exit Afterburner and CCC while doing this.

Note:

Disable your PhysX card in Device Manager while doing all the above. Enable it later if you need to use it.

anyone tried the WHQL version of 11.10? Kinda curious to see if anything changes?

I finally found 11.10 v3 and CAP 4 to work well.

They are identical, difference is the WHQL Catalyst 11.10 supported by UAC.

1. Tried that already several times, no go.

2. Yup, this is my third such cycle already using 11.10 v3 and 11.9 CAP4. Nothing was resolved.

3. I'll try WHQL and see what happens.

4. I always keep ULPS disabled anyway.

How many instances of ULPS you edited? I guess only one. You have to edit all of them. There's no other reason for the crash other than that.

Edit: Your PSU might not cut it when the system into full load.
