BF3 (final) performance thread - Page 43

So I was messing around with BF3 settings this morning. Man what a difference. I set everything to Med including Post AA. I played Caspian Boarder which is the most demanding on my system. I was getting a solid 60 frames it never moved. Butter smooth. No dips or anything. Only problem is you do notice a difference in the graphics. Not alot but its their. So I now I have to decide to play on HIGH with dips into the 40's or play on MED and never have it dip.

I guess having a GTX 460 doesn't cut it for Ultra on mulitplayer. If i wanted to do that and have much better framerates i'd have to decide if i should upgrade to GTX 580 or 570? I have tried Ultra. It works fine for me but i have to turn off AA and put X4 AF and no motion blur and Textures on Medium and everything else on Ultra. Fps is like from 25 to 38. In certain areas i do have 40 but rarely catch a 60 but that's only from flying.

Playing Ultra is amazing because it's sharper and nicer and gives much realistic feel. Wish we all can play just Ultra with no dips and enjoy a incredible battle with incredible shadows and explosions and more.

Gotta decide if i should pull a trigger on a new card NEXT WEEK or wait for Black Fridays.

Does overclocking your CPU and GPU really help frame rates? I ran BF3 at stock with my system. Then I overclocked my CPU to 4.5 Ghz and my GPU to 840/1325 and to me I may have gained 5 frames. I was under the impression that I should get alot more than that....

1080P needs GTX 580 for Ultra.

You should be fine with minimums in the mid-40s and averages in the 50s or 60s most of the time at stock clocks. At 900MHz+ on the core you can stay above 50 FPS pretty much all the time, and generally between 60-80 average. This is just my experience (1080P, Ultra preset with PostProcess AA off and Motion Blur off, HBAO on, 4x MSAA and 16x AF at 90 FOV).

No experience with the 570 but I doubt it can do Ultra comfortably without a silly overclock.

Those settings you said, are for GTX 580 correct? Or your current set up.

I find changing FOV cause glitchy problems in the game unless i heard wrong. I'm still running fine at FOV 70. It acted a little weird when i set it to 78. I didn't think of trying 90 but doubt i'd like it. Thanks for the input. I might get a GTX 580. Wish it wasn't so expensive lol.

My current setup does have a GTX 580 (single eVGA GTX 580 SC). The in-game settings are just the Ultra preset less Postprocess AA (which reduces FPS by maybe 1-2%; very low impact but I just don't like the effect) and Motion Blur (very distracting in multiplayer, not sure about performance impact).

At stock 797/2025MHz my GTX 580 pulls mins in the mid-low 40s with this setup. My 580 goes up to 930MHz on stock voltage (1.088v at load, pretty superb chip) which pushes those mins all the way to the low-mid 50s. If you can live with 2x MSAA the GTX 580 should be very comfortable for Ultra at stock clocks.
