Coil Whine? Help?

Thread Starter
So under 99% load I can hear a lot of coil whine out of my case my specs are in my sig. Is there anyway to fix this? Could it be because I am using the PCI-E power adapters straight from the PSU and not the converters that come in the box? and No I will not use V-Sync as I require 120FPS.

Does the problem rely in my PSU or GPU?

There is nothing you can really do about coil whine as its something that can naturally happen with inductors sometimes. You could try to RMA or replace the components yourselves though the first one would have downtime with your card and the second one you could screw it up.
A lot of people have this issue with newer cards, mine both whine but I use headphones so it's okay.
I'm using the 6 pins directly from my PSU and whether it's a hard-wired six pin or a molex to six pin adapter it's a 12V supply either way, I'm guessing the adapters will have no impact.

I've heard putting nail varnish, hot glue or something else on the inductors to dampen the noise helps but it would void your warranty.

Is your card still covered under warranty? If it really bothers you some companies will accept a return.

Mine is from the GPU. Here is what people told me to do:

You take a straw and put one end in your ear. Point the other end at individual components to listen to them. You should be able to narrow it down to certain parts. Push on the components firmly with your finger to see if the sound stops to gets quieter. You may need to push more than one. Once you find the components that are whining, you can cover them in hotglue or clear nail polish to stop them from resonating.

I decided this was too involved for me and I didn't know how the components would react to have their heat sealed in.

I don't those those converters would change anything at all.

It's nothing to worry about, the coils in the inductors vibrate and make noise and that's about it.

One of my cards has been whining for a few months of folding at 800 core so it should be fine.

Yep those are good temps. If you want to try to lower the temperatures more so at idle/load you could use MSI afterburner to increase the fan speed (manually) or create a better fan profile as the default ones kinda suck in my oppinion.

idle temps are 29 which is fine and that is from MSI Afterburner

What's your fan speed for those temps? Mine's idling at 33C and 82C at load with the fan on auto (and its a three fan HSF along the lines of yours). Then again, you have a much larger case.
