Are the new 11.10's and CAP3's killing my xfire?

I finally had my system running in harmony with my 2 5870's running at 1025/1250 stable for a nice period of time. I went ahead and installed the drivers mentioned in the title (preparing for BF3 release) and now one card is clocked at 1025/1250, and the second 5870 is running at 125/?!? LMAO! I use afterburner to clock my voltages and speeds. I tried disabling xfire in CCC and then re-enabling it.I uninstalled afterburner and reinstalled with the same results. Has anyone ever seen their second card drop to 125 on the core speed? I am testing this with Bad Company 2 by the way. Is it the new drivers, or could it be something else? I uninstalled ati drivers completely/driver sweeper etc...

Thanks,

Chris

Sounds like your other card is not being recognized and is downclocking to idle. Problem is, I wouldn't know how to fix it. But here's a bump for a more knowledgeable reply !

Try 1 card at a time, see if both are able to crank up to 1025.

Argh! Well, I think I will go back to 11.9 drivers for now especially after reading the main BF3 thread. Seems a LOT of xfire users are having issues with 11.10 drivers and have gone back to 11.9. I will reply back to this thread tonight and tell you if going back to 11.9 and getting rid of the crap new CAPS fix my xfire issue.

Thanks.

11.10 is fine with me but i had to get rid of the CAPS, it was laggy as hell in BF3. I do get the random 2nd card idle when launching BF3 but i close BF3 then reopen it and the 2nd card picks up fine again. I was having problems with the game locking every time i would change a key bind, it would ask me if i wanted to keep the resolution settings, i would hit yes or no and GPU usage would goto 0, and lock BF3. It has seemed to magically disappear after playing some of the campaign.

Ok, looks like the common denominator for **** performance is the new CAPS. How could ATi release that right before BF3 stating that it greatly enhanced xfire BF3 performance? I will try just uninstalling those and then testing out BF3 with my second card and see if it downclocks. Christ, I need a second monitor when I play just to monitor whether or not my xfire is even working. VERY annoying. This is the kind of stuff that make me even CONSIDER Nvidia for my next grafx card purchase...

If you are using Afterburner, have to disable ULPS. That's all.

To disable ULPS:

1. Go to regedit (start > search programs and files > "regedit").
2. In drop down menu: find file > type "enableulps".
3. For ALL instances (keep pressing F3) change the "1" value to a "0".
4. Reboot PC.

Appreciate the reply Ken. I do have ULPS disabled and xfire was working great before I installed 11.10 with CAP3.

Some users have better scaling without CAP3. Remove it and give it a try.

Or roll back to Catalyst 11.9 + CAP3 or CAP2.
