up grade my sign rig

Thread Starter
Simple enough, I need suggestions on up grading my PSU, CPU, mobo, and ram. $400 price target please.

If you want to stick with AMD:

What are your future plans regarding video cards?

Of course, if you're open to switching to Intel, there's that, or Bulldozer, although I don't think the latter is the best choice at this point.

Oh, and your current Rocketfish PSU should handle almost any single-card rig fine, if I'm not mistaken. However, if you plan on going CFX/SLI down the road, that would call for an upgrade.

I'm not sure, but why not only upgrade the CPU to a bulldozer. The motherboard probably has or will have a bios update. And maybe some more of the same ram you already have.

Skip the PSU you already have one powerful enough, and its still working strong right? Otherwise get a Corsair, Seasonic or Antec PSU.

if you are going Intel, go with an ASRock Mobo, they have amazing build quality at a great price. When looking for a mobo, look for ones with heatsinks close to the CPU, those will OC better.

Here is an i5-2500k upgrade:

Don't get that Biostar board. Rosewill PSU's are so-so.

Get these parts:
FX 4100 - 118 + ship (directron http://www.directron.com/fd4100wmgusbx.html)
M5A97 - http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?...TX-Motherboard - 85 shipped after code SPOOKY
2x2GB DDR3-1600 - $29 shiped on Newegg
Rosewill RG530 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817182199 - 50

Let us assume 5 shipping and it is $287 shipped. You have $113 shipped to upgrade that video card which if you game will probably make more difference than anything else 4850 to 6770 I think is a fairly sized bump. Even better yet, GTX 465

So If I do not go beyond one card, I don't need to go up in wattage on a new PSU? I'm ordering a new PSU because I had a PSU fail on another rig. I just thought I'd upgrade what I have here and move the sig parts to the other rig. It's just been awhile for the time I'd built this rig and I'm alittle lost now.
