[Newbie] RAM @ 1600Mhz on Phenom II X4 955 BE

Hey everyone,

Specs:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2
Mobo: ASRock 770 Extreme3

Memory I want to add: CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600Mhz

So, the ASRock supports dual-channel 1600Mhz sticks, but I've read that the Phenom CPU is use is native to 1333Mhz. Meaning I will need to monkey around in the BIOS somehow to get my RAM functioning at 1600Mhz... totally lost on what to do as far as that goes. Do I simply set the Memory settings or do I need to OC the CPU in some way?

Can I get some pointers, pretty please?

You'll have to do it manually, takes 2 seconds, really simple. Just enter your BIOS, find your DRAM configuration and manually set the speed from 1333mhz to 1600mhz.

Will my CPU need any massaging, as well? My research on the internet seems unanimous that the CPU will need to be overclocked in order to hit 1600Mhz...

Another option would be to "downclock" the memory to 1333Mhz, but lower the latency... I wouldn't know the exact latency settings though.

Ensure that your CPU is a C3 revision CPU. Then, bump the memory multiplier to x8 (or whatever corresponds to your bus clock). Increase CPU-NB voltage as necessary for optimum stability.
