Birthday time=Upgrade time?

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, so here's the deal.

My birthday was this weekend, and honestly i don't know what I want for my birthday. I was thinking about maybe getting some upgrades to my computer, as I want to play BF3. So, I have a few questions.

Could I run BF3 on say medium at a semi decent framerate? (Playable, 60ish)

If not, what are some upgrades I could make that cost me ~200 dollars? Preferable under slightly.

Thanks for your help!

While I can't speak from experience as I upgraded from my C2D for BFBC2, I would imagine you'll have a fairly hard time bridging the gap at that price point. I found I was severely hampered by my dual core cpu in BFBC2, so I can only imagine that issue will be further compounded by BF3. However, if you are planning on upgrading your CPU, MoBo, and RAM sometime in the future, my vote would be to look into a new video card as you'll be able to use it now and in the future.

Get a 6870

Yep BF3 is like 99% GPU. I'd recommend something like a 6870 or so.

Well I run BC2 pretty well with my C2D, but only on medium with some tweaks of course. If I got the 6870, would my C2D bottleneck it? Also, would I be able to expect playable framerates at maybe medium settings?
