NEC PA301W or Dell U3011? - Page 4

Another thought is something I've seen, taking a 30" monitor and framing it with two 20" (1600x1200) monitors turned on end.

Not recommending this specifically, just an illustration of what I mean: http://www.cinemassivedisplays.com/Trio_30DX.php

You have to remember that both with the 30" and 27" models, the NEC, Eizo and other brands use the same, or almost the same LCD element/panel. This means that visually the differences would probably not be really striking.

It's the electronics and advanced capabilities that set the expensive models apart from the more inexpensive models.

NEC and Eizo screens have built in color lookup tables that can be modified and endlessly re-calibrated, whereas with most other screens you actually calibrate your video card (to reshape the color output) via an ICM profile, they support different color spaces, gamma curves, color temperatures, multiple picture modes, etc.... and do it all properly.

So it may not be easily apparent, but it's the capabilities, and how the picture can be adjusted and improved on these screens over their lives that makes them more capable, and likely more expensive.

But, for your purposes, I see nothing wrong with an HP ZR2740W or Dell U3011, or even an HP ZR30W. All are great screens and likely to fulfill your criteria.

@Zzyzx...thanks for the link. I have never seen that web site before. I have thought about 2 smaller panels adjacent to a center larger panel. This idea led to my current idea of having three 27" panels. I like the idea of surrounding myself with panels.

@10e...your comments are well received. Maybe my desire for an NEC or Eizo is purely ego. Very soon my new build, the "Star Trek Voyager Warp Core Case" will be complete: http://www.overclock.net/case-mod-wo...t-voyager.html. I have spent over a year designing this PC. With the help of FrozenQPCMods, we have begun building. After all of this work, I guess I wanted the very best monitors for my new build.

But, I am not a professional photographer. I know I have a deep appreciation for photography and will notice - and appreciate - the differences between a Dell and an NEC or an Eizo. But I mainly use my computer for work (i.e., writing academic papers for publication and conducting research online)...probably 85% of the time. I will be getting into day trading very soon, but again multiple Dell U2711 or Dell U3011 will be more than sufficient for my needs. I play games only about 10% of the time.

The next time Dell has a 25% off sale on their monitors, I can get three Dell U2711s. I am trying to imagine what that will look like.

Question for everyone:
If you had three 27" screens or 30" screens (any brand), would you have them in the horizontal position, or turn them all vertically? With the Dell model I will probably have to remove the base so I can connect the monitors to a custom-built stand. Does anyone know if the stands on the Dell or HP can be removed so I can install a VESA mount?

Thanks!

Vailen

I know the U3011 and U2711 can be VESA-mounted. I believe they are both 100x100mm bolt patterns. With photography, you'll definitely notice the difference between a U2711/U3011 and anything else ever again. Now, a lot of people say the same between Dell and NEC, but I haven't had the budget to do so, which is probably fortunate, or I would have a house full of NECs.

I wouldn't have bought my U2711 if I didn't love the U3011. In fact, I had to get the U2711 because I couldn't stand the colors of my old 2nd monitor any longer. I'm still considering upgrading my U2711 to a 2nd U3011.

Go with the U3011, I know this is OCN and we go all out, but I think this is one of those times where the more expensive just won't do much for you I don't think. From what I've read nearly everyone loves their U3011.

@Zzyzx...I have been looking at the CineMassive monitor systems. They are very impressive.

Does anyone on OCN own any of the CineMassive systems? I am wondering how good their monitors are. http://www.cinemassivedisplays.com/

I can make no recommendation for CineMassive in general. I was just using that as a way to demonstrate how you could frame a U3011 with two 2007FP on their sides.

They all have adjustable stands, and the 20-inchers can rotate on the dell stands. Or, if you want that more refined look, go for something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824994002

Edit: This is what I mean; the 3008WFP is the U3011's older brother.
This is what I would've done if I do more gaming, but I use my second monitor for multitasking, so having two, almost equal sized monitors works much better for my uses.

OCN:

Update

Hello everyone. I have not purchased my monitor yet. We have augmented my Warp Core Case with more artwork and details, thus I would rather take our time and build the case slowly. I plan on buying the moinitor when the project is complete.

Regarding the monitor, I am going with one of these options:
(1) One NEC 30" display
(2) Two Dell U3011s
(3) Cinemassive Duo 30D

If the Dell U3011s are not on sale at the time I am ready to buy, then the Cinemassive Duo 30D setup is a very strong contender. Does anyone here on OCN have this setup? I have sent PMs to some members you have these monitors listed in their profile, but unfortunately none have responded. Can anyone make any recommendations (for or against) this company?

http://www.cinemassivedisplays.com/Duo_30D.php

Thanks,

Vailen

Hey hey hey Stop With Dell Monitors I Have Best Than Dell. thumb.gif

I am an EXPERT IN PC AND LAPTOPS AND OTher electronics things Don't Believe Ask My Friends the recommendation Igave them is Successful.

I am Telling YOU THAT IF YOU choose DELL the graphics of gaming and video Will BE THE SAME AS the monitor n3000 i had use it and the DIFFERENCE IS MADE DELL U3011 IS BAD V/S THE NEC PA301W. DON"T believe me then buy both and make the difference .

IN the dell one even if you buy the best GRAPHIC card of the world the GRAPHICS WILL BE BETTER THAN the monitor N1800 BUT NOT BETTER THAN THE NEC ONE BELIEVE ME.
