Room is 19c - Idle temp 22c... Normal?

Thread Starter
I built my first ever system back in April and decided to go with a 2600k i7 for a decent bit of overclocking room.

But do these idle temps look right to you?

th_957771940_DSCF4751_122_335lo.JPG

I personally feel they are a little low. But they might be correct. I have read other peoples idle being around the 30c and up.

I'm running 4.4ghz right now and under load the temps dont go anywhere past 65c cooled by my Alpenfohn Matterhorn air cooler which I had recommended to me. If I push the OC to say 4.9 - 5.0ghz the load temps get a bit toasty at around 88 - 90c which can be expected and as I am using the Sabertooth P67 motherboard which comes with its thermal monitoring program it lets me know when my CPU reaches past 85c. I never have these warnings while running 4.4 - 4.7ghz.

I am using Core Temp also to monitor my temps and this also reads the same temp as my motherboard does.

My system is inside a Silverstone Raven 01 case.

So what I am asking is... are these idle temps normal? or do you think I have a bad temp sensor on my motherboard?

...call me a n00b all you want because that IS what I am, we all got to learn somewhere ;D

Thanx in advance!
My System

Those temps are nice smile.gif

The reason behind it getting hotter at 5.0ghz is most likely because you had a higher voltage there for it makes the cpu run just that little more.

22oc when its 18oc outside is very nice indeed smile.gif

Logically speaking, the only time computer hardware is exactly at room temperature is when your computer has been OFF for a while. When you turn it on, it starts up, components start working, things start spinning, and that produces heat.

And because of this, computer temps on idle will always be higher than room temperature on an air cooled system or even watercooling.

N3n0 is asking if his idle temps aren't too low, not high.

That close to ambient does strike me as odd, but I don't know much about this either, so I'll defer to the more knowledgeable.

My graphics cards etc on idle Are also aroudn 28c, as my room is 22-25c, i think tis a nice temp and it must be correct, as the load temps are spot on smile.gif

Does look right. Yesterday it was about 29c and I was idling at 32 - 36c.

Pretty amazing how ambients influence temps.

Idle temps are useless. The sensors used to take PC temps have an "optimal range" of operation. the lower temps go the less accurate they tend to be. Unless your into the epic e-peen warz dont worry about your ambiant temp, Load temps are all that matters:)

That aside your temps seem to be pretty sweet!

It is my understanding that the only time having low temps is problematic is if you're using a thermoelectric water block and condensation forms.
