Room is 19c - Idle temp 22c... Normal? - Page 2

Thread Starter
Thanx for all the replies everyone biggrin.gif great to sign up and start my first thread and get a nice range or responses from different people.

I am not bothered about idle temps as a matter of lower is 'BETTER' as KhaoticKomputing said, load temps is what matters : ) ...BUT... I was wondering if my motherboard CPU sensor was maybe a bit off, meaning the load temp would also be off, sooo when I thought I was running 63c @ 4.4ghz, it was actually running at 73c or more. You can see where I am going with this for much higher OC's.

Say my temp sensor was duff and showing me 10c less than what it actually is, that could be baaaaaad at high overclocks. I get around 90c for a 5.0ghz OC and thats obviously just not an everyday OC... not with my air cooler. But say I run some benchmarks and tests and think that 5.0ghz is only taking the i7 to 90c and its actually pushing 100c ...OUCH!

This is my concern. But it seems my idle temp is fine sooo I'm just going to settle that this is normal and I'm happy with how my cooler is handling my 2600k biggrin.gif

All temp sensors are going to be off when your outside of the operating range of them. I'm pulling these numbers out of my arse but lets use my 955BE(cpu) for explanation sake. It has a max safe temp of 62c/143.6f the sensor is going to be most accurate at around 40c-70c. If i drop lower than 40c the sensor lose's the ability to give a dead accurate reading. mind you, all those number except the CPU safe temp are totaly made up and just to give an example. I don't know exactly what range the sensors are tuned for but I can assume that they are tuned for close to the max operating temp:)

22c idle at a room with 19c ambient is perfectly normal.

I get 35c idle at a room with 30c ambient smile.gif
