Newbie issues.

Thread Starter
I'm having issues overclocking by any more than a small amount.

Here are my specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo Cpu E6550 2.33Ghz
2 x OCZ SLI 1024MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz
2 x CRUCIAL 1024MB PC5400 DDR2 667MHZ
(total of 4gb ram)
EVGA nForce 680i SE SLI Socket 775 Motherboard

I am using the Nvidia Performance tools to do the overclocking and i have my ram running at 2 v with the cpu running at 1.4 v. The multiplier is at the default 7. I can get the cpu to 2.6 ghz pretty stably but as soon as i hit 2.7 it crashes. The temperature isn't an issue it stays below 40 degrees Celsius. I cant figure out why it keeps crashing or what to do about it.

Overclocking with software usually doesn't work too well. The best way to overclock is by setting everything in the BIOS. Here is a nice guide for overclocking Core 2's that should help you out, read over it and if you have any questions I'm sure someone will be here to help you out.
