Steam Vs. Origin

Thread Starter
What's the difference between those two in terms of downloading/playing/installing games? I have never used Origin before so I don't know if they have activation limits or if games even need to be installed (like steam, which has no installation).

Do not be idiots and argue about one being better than the other, please only focus on my question.

You posted this on a forum where at LEAST 80-90% of the users are Steam fanboys.
Steam has been around longer, has a better selection IMO, and is stable for most people.

Origin is the same, minus the fanbase and selection of games, oh and it has Tax, which blows.

steam is more stable and polished.
origin has a LONG way to go before it can match steam. people also have a ton of trouble with EA customer service.

steam has a massive game selection and runs rather awesome deals on a daily basis. my PC gaming history is backed in valve games, so steam is more or less my home.

just give in and use both. each will have different prices at times, especially since EA controls origin. the other day i got bulletstorm for 8 bucks on origin, and i love the game. i also made sure to activate the games i bought on steam on origin as well, just didnt install them. (actually i eventually switched to origin for those games)

Steam has been around much longer, so naturally it has an obvious upperhand over Origin. The former is much more robust, stable, and has a better UI (in my opinion).

You might want to add in that it's likely that most of your friends use Steam and share the opinion that they don't like Origin and are less likely to use it. Of course that's conjecture... if we're only talking about their functions and not the reality of the situation, Steam is what was mentioned above: stable, bigger/better selection and hell, they put out new deals for Indie/Popular games alike.

But what about game activation limits? I keep hearing stories about how people had to call EA support to get more activations for their games. Is this for Origin?

don't know... never had to reinstall too often...

but I *unlike most of the people here* actually do like Origin... it looks neat, and isn't even required when launching most games... unlike Steam

although Steam does auto-update your library, and you can update your AMD graphics driver through its menu, rather than going to the AMD website...
and of course the sales are always amazing...

but I'm completely indifferent about either... I only use Steam for its sales... wherever has the cheapest, I'll go there... and friends? I have a lot... but I never, EVER talk to any of them...

well, I'm not TOO big on multiplayer games to begin with...
