Q9550 & Gigabyte EP45-UD3P

Q9550 C1 quad core with Gigabyte EP45-UD3P
8gigs muskin PC6400 ram @ 1066
H60 CPU water cooler

I have everything on stock settings and I can get up to 3.8 before I need add volts to the CPU but then I am stone walled.

Is it the 8 gigs of Ram? I have to have it to do video editing.

In other tests I can get it to POST at 480FSB but it BSOD's after the windows login.

Thoughts? Help.

Still new here, but I think the experts will need a lot more info on your system to be able to help you out.

Check out the UD3P User's guide here for loads of info on the topic. =)

C1 stepping sucks. E0 stepping is where it is at if you wanted an easy 4ghz. that being said its not impossible to get 4ghz on a C1 stepping Q9550. try these settings:

475FSB
8.5 multiplier
1.3v Northbridge (MCH)
1.4v CPU Vcore (may need more, but try that first)
1.28v CPU Termination (VTT)

Might even what to try 1.4 MCH for 8 gb ram, if 1.3 doesnt work.

And can you complete this page, so we know what gear you have, ta

Go http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...ers-guide.html for the most help as well as templates from some of our setups.

Here is mine for an aggressive 4.3GHz 24/7 OC. Keep in mind I have a waterblock on both CPU and NB. Before you go trying that, you should read through the thread till you understand the GTL and skew settings.

If you're using DDR2 800, you're going to have to spend a bunch of time overclocking/tuning your RAM at lower CPU speeds (6X multiple for example), and testing it for stability. Your'e really better off with 1066 unless you're sure your RAM is stable.

If you're using 4 sticks of RAM, you're going to work alot harder and need more MCH voltage. It will limit your overall OC as no intel 775 overclocks are happy with 4 sticks of RAM. I'd highly advise to start with 2 sticks so you know where you stand, and then work on adding the other two if you have to have 8GB.

**EDIT** I see you have a C1. Get the skews and GTLs set right to see what you can get on the FSB/RAM. Set a 6X CPU multiple, and see how far your RAM can go. Test with Prime Blend. Only then will you know if it's RAM or CPU failing.
