560ti sli poor performance - Page 3

hey man
just got up to speed on ur situation, if i were u i would hold on to both cards for at least a month or so, and hope they patch the problem, sounds like they no about it and are trying, ur 2 560ti's are better than/equal too a 580, so just hang out a bit, the fix will come, first day release of any game is ... problematic at best. BF3 seems to be doing awesome, but there will always be problems, my 2cents are hold on to the cards,

the VRAM is a pretty big talk point on OC.net ath the moments, some people are reporting up to 4gb usage on multi player (were the card is borrowing system RAM) so, but it also seems to be reported that the game willl use as much VRAM as it cane so if u get a 1.3gb card it will use that, u got a sweet rig, let the software catch up . biggrin.gif

About the VRAM dont listen to the posters that say its your VRAM on your TI's it is not the memory of your card. Its issues with the game itself, dont switch out cards yet. 560 Ti's in SLI should be faster than a single GTX 580.

Its just the SLI is poorly optimized that what you are running smoother with a single one lot of people with SLI/CFX are having issues with microsttutering which you are epxeriencing.

Hopefully a patch will fix it up, dont go around spending your money on new cards. Hope it helped.

You should be running Ultra preset with no problems with 2XMSAA at least when the issues with SLI are resolved.

I've had to bring my cpu overclock waay down, from 4.2 to 3.85Ghz. I've also underclocked my gpu's down to around 850Mhz/1975mem. Running in preset "ultra", getting anywhere from 25-120+ fps, with an average of around 55-60, according to afterburner. Using latest nVidia drivers 285.62. Can't stress lowering overclocks down on this game, enough.

Not experiencing anything of the sort here.

Although, I agree with you, VRAM isn't the problem.

Yeah but most people are though. I got around of 1446mb of max VRAM usage on my 3GB Lightning XE (Evrything MAX w/ 2XMSAA @1080p @ 51-69FPS) from what I remember looking at the LCD on my keyboard. 1GB can cut it since the processing power of two GPU should handle it just fine.

Yeah i totally agree its best to wait, I wanted the power of sli and really thought the memory at 1gb on my resolution would be okay with the dual gpu power, so hopefully its software related. Otherwise I have 30days to return the 2nd biggrin.gif

Update-
Disabling msaa has pretty much made the game play 99% smooth. There are a few glitches in the game though so I dont think its the video cards or drivers. Some guys that were blown up with a grenade were floating till I walked by them then they hit the floor, on one level I could see through a wall till I walked by, etc. Cant wait for a patch or two.

With msaa what would be lesser quality? Everything else is maxed out. Only thing I noticed is that it might be possible that light sources dont have the SUPER brilliant glow as before, but barely noticable if not just in my head lol If anything that tells you how close they look alike that I cant really see a difference in quality.

Thanks guys for the help, I hope they make sli more efficient soon, not sure if campaign will be worth going through a second time yet

Just to test things out, try lowering your texture setting, AA, and resolution until you are not using all of your VRAM. That will let you know whether that is the cause of the stuttering or not. I also suggest defragging your hard drive of you haven't done so.

Doesnt the multiplayer games use system memory though?

Btw Just listed my 560ti for sale lol, once that goes gonna return the 560ti and get an msi 570gtx pe/oc. I just wish they had more memory also lol

One thing I noticed too though is that Im getting weird gameplay in crysis 2, its like the level will get a tear across it for a second, happens every now and then, I never noticed that with a single 560ti. Maybe BF3 will use all available memory but durring bf3 campaign i get 98.7 usage reported through openhardware monitor. Seems like sli is a little more sensitive and maybe with the gpu power of 2 560ti it does need a little more than 1GB?

----
These little issues are why I was nervous about sli, not that its bad but for a single monitor on 1920x1080 I shouldnt need to sli lol one beefy card should be my solution im thinking, now if I was rockin 3 monitors, sli would be worth the driver/game issues

added some info to the original post and labeled it in bold.

I know this got a little focused on BF3 early on, and now thats running ok for the most part with mssa off, but I was reminded of the crysis 2 issues when I played today, I get flicker on glass objects, such as cars and the rifles scope. Any ideas of a fix? Or is this the wonderful side of Sli? If I disable sli it goes away. single card gets 24-32fps on the level im on single card and plays perfect, with sli im double that but with those bugs. I didnt seem to see it on the list for sli optimised so maybe its just one of those games?

I really want to find a reason to keep both these cards, sli looks great and deffinetly increases my FPS, but gez its a pain biggrin.gif If I wasnt traveling out of town in 2 weeks I would have already ordered the 570gtx out of frustration
