My own BF3 benchmark (Hyperthreading - on vs off)) - Page 2

When the settings pulled up at the ceiling minimized the differences between the fastest processors.

With the settings in the medium mode is more visible differences in the starting field. The top is Intel's models with Hyperthreading enabled, and one step lower on the scale are the Core i5 2500K capable of four simultaneous threads.

Make sure hyperthreading is off for BF3, as it causes annoying micro stutter.

This shows that having hyperthreading on actually increases FPS.

Yes, but only when you use low/medium settings.

Pretty sad that HT is such a fluke for gaming when it's such a boon for productivity software. Seems like wasted technology.

I think that's a harsh statement.

It's not that HT is bad. It's that game developers don't see optimizing their game for HT to be financially sound at this point in time.

Although it seems that with Bf3 they tried, and failed miserably. I wonder if this is even something they can patch? It seems that it might be rooted in the frostbite engine confused.gif

Actually if you're looking at the FPS i believe there is no increase when you disable HT.

But like i saw in some other posts, if you open the console inside BF3 and type "render.perfOverlayVisible 1", you can see major improvements when you watch the chart closely.
I was having stutterings a lot with my GTX 580 + i7 2600k, and i could easily see at the chart when my spikes were happening.
When i disabled HT it seems to be better so far, i really believe that biggrin.gif

59 vs 51 & 40 vs 34 Min. FPS says otherwise. That's a huge difference!

In fact, I'm pretty sure that the increase in min. FPS is what made your gameplay much smoother, as it tends to have such effect. smile.gif

Glad I found this thread, my performance in BF3 has been bothering me. I'm going to disable HT tonight and see how it affects things. Thanks for this!

Maybe because you have SLI GPUs...?

I conducted similar tests as OP and I can confirm that HT really doesn't make a difference.
